Who actually reads here?
Just wondering who actually reads here. If ya didnt know reading greatly elevates your vocabulary. Didnt start reading agen till a month or two ago and forgot how fun it was. Now I read like one new book a week. I read about 5 books last month and so far this month 3 books 3 more before next month.. Was thinkin of writting a book myself lol but thats jst too crazy for me lol. But yea I also learned from these poets that the only reason they can write so good is because they read alot. but yea who reads here?

|

|
I don't read books a lot. Frankly I don't remember the last book I read.
But I do read the newspaper everyday. Does that count for anything? |

^^^Guaranteed to lower your Vocabulary. Of course man reading is fundamental like whoa yo. My favorite book's probably "A tree grows in brooklyn". I read it again 3 days ago when i heard that cherry blossoms sprouted in new york not too long ago. Revived the metaphor for me. |
lol, i dont even read books fo skool. when they give us a book n tell us to read it n answer tha questions, i just copy my friend Antonio's answers -_-
i cant stand readin. it strains my eyes to read books n gives me headaches, cuz of tha shitty blindness, blah, werd |
Yeah reading anything counts, but maybe not posts on this site, they might make you a lil less intelligent. lol, but when I read a book, and see bigger words I dont even know what the fuck they mean, so how does that help me?.. Dictionary is the only thing that helps.

I read mostly fiction books but tryin to get into readin romance, horror, comedy etc.. just so i dont really jst stick to one topic of reading cuz for a while it could get alittle boring. sorta like only eating one type of food everyday and eventually u'll get tired of it lol |
yessir, hit me with everything you got
i do security on weekends which basically means i sit on my ass and smoke weed in a empty parking lot, so a good book would be great |
lol word.. i go to skewl everyday lol.. 8-2 pm everyday 17 credits in college :( lol.. than work till like 7 pm.. i only get to read on my breaks and bout every chance i get.. but some good tittles prolly would be..
harry potter: if you havent really read much. Its not that hard to read. The vocab level aint to high and aimed towards to 9-12 year olds.. but its perfect even I love to read it. Eragon: (from movie lol) this book was written a while back before the movie ofcourse. But if you liked watching/reading harry potter, lord of the rings and star wars this is sort of like a mix of all that together in one. The words he chooses is carefully chosen and literally makes u seem as if ur watching the movie. At times I forgot i was reading and thought i was watching a movie in my head lol.. Eldest is jst a sequel to it. I got another one but its complicated to read and 1500 pages lol.. |
i heard about eragon, im gonna read that one and let you know what i think, im gonna pass on the harry potter lol but good looking on the book title

No. You are NOT going to fucking read Eragon, you two fucking retarded, illiterate horsefucking dumbshits. That's the lowest quality of literature and I will literally rip out your fucking hearts if you read it. Here are some recommendations of actual good books, you stupid cocksucking fishmoms. Quote:
It's a blatantly plagiarized, shitty fantasy work that gets its fame from the author's supposed age, though he was older than it says he was. Guess what every story is supposed to do? THE SAME EXACT THING. You're supposed to see it as a movie in your head. Here's some recommendations for you if you weren't born sharing your brain with a dead fetus. Read in this order: A Song of Ice and Fire by George Martin, including books around 1000 pages. Begins with Game of Thrones, then Clash of Kings, then Storm of Swords, then A Feast for Crows. Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson There are four books out, around 600 a pop. I'm reading House of Chains right now, which is basically Conan the Barbarian, but on crack. Dark Tower septology by Stephen King. The books are: The Gunslinger Drawing of the Three The Waste Lands Wizard and Glass Wolves of the Calla Song of Susannah The Dark Tower For some more beginner stuff, try Garth Nix's Abhorsen Trilogy (Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen). Get the book covers with the symbols, not the characters, because of all the 'gangstas in da hood' will think you're a homo (even more so). Shade's Children by him is also a good apocalyptic novel. I'll post some excerpts from the novels, so you can learn what good writing with carefully chosen words looks like. |
For instance...China Mieville's Perdido Street Station:

I'm reading George Orwell's complete novels book at the moment. Just read the first one, it was Animal Farm. Amaaaazing story.
Reading Burmese Days now. |
If you enjoy fantasy novels, R Scott Bakker's The Prince of Nothing Trilogy is an absolute must read. The most thought provoking novel I have ever read.
Extremely mature, extremely dark. The best series of novels I have read in my life. |
I mostly read magazines and maybe a newspaper or two nowadays, usually during lunch or dinner. Other times, I would be at the computer reading forums, news, blogs, etc. Been really busy the past few years, so it has been a while since I've picked up a book. When I was in elem, middle, and high school, I read a lot. I can finish a good paperback in two days.
If you got an idea for a book and think you can do it, go ahead and write it. If it is any good and it sells, you'll get royalty checks for who knows how long. Imagine getting checks 10 years from now for doing nothing. Same thing can be done with songs lyrics that are licensed to the artists. |
I think I'm in the twilight zone. It's like I've been hearing/reading about stuff I learned a long time ago, but it's being presented as brand new facts. For example, on Cnn.com, there was a study entitled, "Exercise is the best way to lose weight."
No shit for real But umm...I'm reading two books currently. 1. "Black Students, Middle Class Teachers" by Dr. Kunjufu 2. "You can have it all" by Arnold Patent. 1 |

Yea thats very true. Basically why not do what you love (like writting books/songs/etc..) and if you manage to get it published or get a record deal you'll get royalties for a long ass time. Even if its only a few extra 20 dollars you receive. Think about it, you get an extra 20 dollars to spend on McDonalds! lol but foreal thats what imma try to do hopefully.. thinkin about reading all sorts of books like romance, horror, comedy etc.. considering im gonna try to write a book and put all those things in it. Just to get a better picture and to help me improve more on vocab etc.. |
Lol this is what gets me...
People think that if you publish a book, it's automatic cash. You have to work your ass off to get any progress. I have put in hours of driving time to schools, libraries, and other public functions, and you know what? I still haven't made a tonne off of my novel. It's not just fun and games. I dissagree with Strobe completely... Writing a 100,000 word novel is only half the battle. |
^ Deffo man. You do have to put some hardcore work into it.
And, if you are trying to write a book it is a good idea to read all sorts of books to broaden your imagination and creativity. I fucking hate romance books, but I've read a fair amount because you need to have some romance in a book because it is key to good reading believe it or not. Some of the better books I've read are... The Dark Tower Septology that Lexi-Kon suggested... they are fucking raw. Shadow Warrior by Chris Bunch The Lord of the Rings Trilogy plus.. The Hobbit. Any book written by Tom Clancy... my personal favourites are Rainbow Six and Red Storm Rising. Dale Brown's "Dreamland" series is also pretty dope military reading. And umm, if you are into all that ninja, samurai shit then I recommend reading The Legend of the Five Rings series.... it is fucking awesome. What else.... The Ultramarines Omnibus (Warhammer Novel) it is three books in one... Warriors of Ultramar, something else... and Dead Sky, Black Sun... I think. THEY ARE DOPE!! And, Faith & Fire is pretty cool..... so is Grey Knights. |

1984 is his best book by far. |
Oh, and John Grisham books are dope as fuck.
