If I make a song threatening injury or even death to someone I know, and release it, can they take it to the police and press charges against me?

without mentioning names, there's nothing they can really do. They dont really care i think. The only reason that they dont/wont use it is because of the entire face that rap music has... random violent threats. The thing is, majority of these are just talk, so i doubt any specific one would be taken seriously. Even look at the lack of reaction to 50s song "Heat" in which he says "somethin somethin i give a fuck if i get caught? the DA can play this mother fuckin tape in court. i'll kill you, i aint playin, you hear what im sayin homie i aint playin".

It's freedom of speech, but if something does happen to him you would be the first person questioned. So um watch what you say and do.

Theyve done it with schools and stuff, with expulsions and stuff just for lyrics, so ther is a possibility, but really... you'd be fine if you had a decent lawyer if ANY issue arose of course..

Some things get more serious when certain things happen, the police want to please the outraged public.

Right now, because of all the terrorism and V. Tech shit, stuff like school kid's journals or lyrics are getting cracked down on to make people feel safer. You can guarantee that if there was a threatening rap track that was followed by a murder and the story made it into the mainstream media, everyone with threatening lyrics would be hassled about it.

no i dont think they can cuz there's nothing official making it an actual "confession" and you could be blushing or saying shit with tongue in cheek, its not like your under oath. i think the most it could do is raise suspicion which probably can make it easier for cops to get warrants granted to them.

i think even that is bullshit... i'm not saying you're lying, but that its bullshit that they can use that against you. i can get on a mic and say whatever i want to, but that doesn't mean that i'm considering the fact that if somebody else kills that person i could be accused... thats some bullshit.

Man, just because the cops can't arrest you it doesn't mean that they can't make your life a living hell. Take Ras Kass and Tupac for example... Ras Kass made rhymes about the government and the police... they locked his ass up on some bullshyt and still harass him every chance they get... Tupac was linked to the Black Panthers via his mom... you already know what the deal is with that.... even if he hadn't done a lot of the shyt he'd done he'd still be targeted off of the strength of who is mom was and what she stood for... cops hold grudges... at the same time... it depends on how much weight dude can hold with the popo... they might just laugh at the dude if he goes in there and plays a song talking about "Q was talking about me"... I'd laugh my ass off, personally.... then i'd go check it out just to make the lil baby feel better.
