Democratic Debate
Its on CNN right now. You might want to watch it and educate yourselves on our candidates
|
oh shit, whens this end homie? I'll go check the TV now. Kucinich and Gravel better be in this shit. No more censorship!
|
^^Dude...are u living under a rocK?
Those guys have been out of the running and debates for a month or so now 1 |
No, actually for about two weeks Kucinich has. Gravel's been out for months.
|
That shit was pretty good. I kinda like Edwards for the Democratic nominee. I thought that he was the only one who was talking about issues while Obama and Clinton were just arguing about each other. All they were doing was defending themselves, then bashing the other. What I think though is that John Edwards would be the best candidate to win in a predominately Republican state for a few reasons. He's southern, he's sooooooooo against poverty, and lets face it, he's not black or a woman. Most southern Republicans would vote against a candidate for the simple fact that they are black or a woman. Am I saying this is right? No. I think we could have a woman or black president one day, but I think it has to come after a strong Democratic president leaves office. Someone who has won in the southern states and can support a democratic nominee.
Any thoughts? |
Edwards could win, Hillary could win, Obama could win.
Do I want my back, leg, or arm broke? I was going to vote for Mike Gravel or Dennis. Since Dennis is most like Mike, but due to the latest censorship I'm now turning republican and voting for Ron Paul, he has the highest chance of winning - (Who is anything like Mike or Dennis) and he's the only possible hope for it. If mike or dennis don't come out of their holes, Ron's grabbing mine and mein father's vote. |
im not gonna vote

What does the president actually do?
I've always wondered... |
He the poster boy for the goverment. Think sonic for sega
|
^^Actually...Congress has the most power in our government...
But, technically, The president can order the army into an area... So, theoretically, he has a ton of power. 1 |
if i was the president...
i would order all males and ugly women in the entire country to take up arms and invade the arabs.. then order myself to have baby booming sex with all the hottest women in the states |

Oh ok, so your country gives the power of probably the best military force in the world to some chum in a suit? Shouldn't they, logically, give that kind of power to people who are experts on military tactics, people who understand the consequences of warfare and are experienced in it? I bet those candidates just want to live in the white house and be called the president. |
Quote:
Here's how it works... Our president is the "Commander in Chief" of the military. He has the outright power to dispatch the military on an initial campaign anywhere he wants. However, our government is set up in a system called "checks and balances" that keeps the three branches of government (Executive, legislative, and judicial) "balanced". Though Bush can deploy the military, only our Congress can officially declare war. That means, the president, though he has the power to send the army out, has to get the funding from Congress. And, if Congress disagrees with the president's actions, they can simply refuse to sign any bill extending the budget of said campaign. As far as Generals are concerned, they are in control on the ground. But, as you know, everything goes back to the president because generals have to answer to our Secretary of Defense, whom the president appoints. Basically, the president is the most powerful man in the world. However, congress, as a whole, has more power than he does. Also, don't sleep on our Supreme Court. They have a ton of power as well, basically deciding upon policies that affect culture and society for decades. 1 |

Its been tradition that the President of our country is the Commander in Chief which makes him the highest ranking person in the military. In history, the President has often been a previous military great, even our first President George Washington. I think that in our day and age with the wars that are going on and about to go on that we should make it mandatory for each Presidential candidate serve in the military for a minimum of a certain amount of years in the military so they at least get an understanding of what their job entails. I'm sure that the current thought is that the President is chosen as the person with the best views on each issue, but what people fail to realize is that he/she has power over our whole military. A weak knowledge of war tactics could break our country, especially if we end up with a hard headed President who won't take the advice from his military advisers (usually Generals or their equivalent). |
Yeah, see that whole thing makes sense.
But the President's role in that system seems a bit redundant... It's as if you could take the President out of the picture and the government would still work in almost exactly the same way. |
Quote:
The President also serves as a check and balance because he can veto laws or bills that he feels would hinder the state of our country. However, a 2/3 majority vote could overturn a president's veto. He does serve a purpose, just most people overlook some of the good the position brings |
Quote:
Yea...lol...I was about to say the same thing If Congress attempts to pass a bill, the president has the power to block it...But, Congress, in turn, has the power to override his "veto" with a 2/3 majority. I actually love this system of government...Our forefathers were pretty smart to set it up this way...prevents Sadam Husseins here in this country...NOw, if only Congress would grow some nads. 1 |
The two way system is flawed though, if you think about it.
Two houses, the house of congress and the house of the president. Two. That's one clashing the other and no third to balance it. That's why I've been suggesting to all you grown ass mother fuckers out there, to vote for the National Initiative. This adds a third house to congress and allows the PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES to express THEIR opinion on all matters the congress and the President get to decide on. http://nationalinitiative.us/  |

are you aware that people have the power to pass legislation in their own states... I believe if u get a certain amount of valid signatures, you can get something passed... not sure 1 |
