Army of Ten Reaches 70,000 Total Word Count

Whether you care or not is entirely up to you.

For those who are curious about how my writing is going there you have it. I am working on chapter seventeen, and a long way to go.

I estimate the final word count being 160,000 or higher, making it longer than The Fellowship of the Ring.

So yeah. I know Zone Out is the only one who has read any of it on here and he thought it was nuts.

WhoAmI 01-05-09 02:29 PM

no offence, but it doesn't matter if it ends up being longer than the fellowship of the ring because it doesn't take a genius to realise that quality outweighs quantity every time.

not meaning to bring you down but at the same time it's the wrong way to look at things in terms of creative work.

but all the best with this project though, you never know, this could be the one.

L.E 01-05-09 02:48 PM

I never intended to imply that length was everything.

The writing world is a very competitive business, so of course quality is naturally most important. I stated the figure about the Fellowship because to me, if I do complete the Army of Ten, it will be a personal achievement for myself.

'Tolkien was an inspiration to me and I wrote a book longer than he wrote ? Kick ass!'

Basically how that works.

So no I am not offended.

You still fucking owe me a copy of your first book signed from RV Survivor, I'd actually read it and give you positive feedback if you weren't a cunt and sent it, I'm only a province over. Fuck, give it to Phenom, he can drop it off when he comes to Queen City.

give us a short blurb general jist view of what your books about...

just out of interest.........

L.E 01-10-09 01:46 AM

Sure.

'Army of Ten' is merely a subtitle for starters.

The actual title is 'The Fall of Mahgus: Army of Ten'.

The genre of the novel is high fantasy, epic in length and inspired by authors such as Steven Erikson and R. Scott Bakker.

It is written in a mature tone suitable for an older and well read audience.

The story is written from different perspectives, though Eduran is the main character and the plot mainly revolves around him.

A very brief synopsis:

Fathenras. An ancient land whose halls tell many tales of great kings and generals, wars and wizards, blood and battle. But a devouring force of intellect and deceit bring its demise, as Tzanrielle take all that she desires.

Eduran is a young man in a desperate town stricken by hunger from tax increases in recent years. He accompanies his older stepbrother Lowbe on a search for any kind of food that may help their family survive through the winter. They find their way into a valley that is said to be cursed, and Eduran witnesses things that could only be of his imagination.

Runne Vaghenrelle is a former Knight who is accused of destroying his own men, a prisoner in a castle he only sought to protect. But chance plays in his favour as he finds himself released by an unlikely authority. Fortune turns against him as he finds himself in between darker dealings than those of lords and kings.

Lord General Lyonoadas is a man of great reputation as his Second Imperial Army had proven itself time and again. He feels disgraced with having his duties reduced to occupying a kingdom that was as desolate as Fathenras had become. He decides to take things into his own hands as he deceives the people he was chosen to rule over, trading their tax dollars for soldiers of their own blood. He amasses the largest army any have seen in years, and his power becomes feared by all.

01-10-09 01:57 AM

eh that's decent but the names piss me off to no end

and take away Army Of Ten

that's more like a fucking Squad bro

L.E 01-10-09 02:12 AM

There literally is a ten man army in the book. Lol.

Magic5 01-10-09 02:39 AM

hmm..

not my style... what demograpic are you mainly aiming for? old people or children or teenagers or what?

fantasy can really be a bit of a nerdy book genre...

Lol. Well I am a little bit of a nerd deep down.

Its not for everyone, but my target audience would be young adults, from sixteen and up really.

Its a mature novel, though not say rated R?

King Solo 01-10-09 11:03 AM

word son, you got a link to this shit or what

like I read your first book, liked that although to give constructive criticism i'd prolly have to go back and read it again coz its been a while

but yeah, high fantasy is that shit.. hard as hell to write, but if you enjoy it like I do then its definitely worth it.

160,000 words is cool.. i know this dude though called Miller.. wrote a book Dragon Lord Legends that is like 460,000 words.. fucking long as hell, but dope as fuck.

King Solo 01-10-09 01:32 PM

Interesting...

I think if I was going to write a novel it would be sci fi... or modern and in some way half factual, just twisting the truth a little to fit in with the story.

i really dont think id get off on creating a whole new world...

i recon it would be cool if you placed an explorer from the early 1900's where they accidently found a cave with a portal into a new universe...

thats about as fantasy as id go...

yeah, creating a whole new world is either great fun or a pain in the ass

i have learned though that sumtimes it can be both

L.E 01-11-09 02:31 AM

It all really depends how much detail you really want to put into it.

Crafting your own world requires crafting cultures, people, and religions. Geographic locations, etc, etc. Details of how everything looks, how the weather reacts...the factors are really endless. Though you can only see as much detail as you can imagine.

It is a lot of work versus using a world that is already created and living for you, with you being able to see details of the world with your very eyes instead of your imagination.

01-11-09 03:14 AM

i can tell you dont write a lot of books but HEY we gotta start somewhere

i suggest that you write book after book, secure the title of author and by the time you're dead, you'll be famous

no doubt holler sometime my nerdy g

I feel you on that, it took me months to craft the world I'm using for my stories. I got about 20 different maps for it. I had to make a history, all the geographical locations, cultures/religions for each individual race, a history for each race, plus a bunch of other shit.

The hardest thing I found is trying to create your own language, that is something I am trying to really learn how to do at the moment whilst I write.

01-11-09 10:34 AM

sounds to me like you should be a video game programmer instead, nick.

that's pretty much what I wanted to be when I was younger

too much work to get there though

at least with writing you need no qualifications other than actual talent and an imagination :)

King Solo 01-11-09 10:51 AM

and depending on the publisher, sumtimes you don't even need talent

hence the reason why CALI is getting published

01-11-09 10:54 AM

That's true, but same with video game programming. I learned syntax and programming language with the usage of Python a few months ago, it's intricate stuff.

edit

in all honesty, I had my limits though. Lol. I could easily find a nearby college class for it.
