My First Fight

I'm scheduled for my first boxing match the first week of April. I'm pretty excited cause I been training like crazy. Going to the gym 4-5 days a week for 2 hours a day and changing my diet. Don't know who i'll be fighting but we'll be at the same weight.

You guys have any boxing matches or kickboxing? And I'm not talking about putting the gloves on with some friends in their garage either.

lyricalflowz 03-17-09 12:54 AM

Nope, good luck though, take his fucking head off.

Haha that's always the plan. It's just there's such a difference between pro and amateur boxing and I tend to box more like the pro's do. Not saying that I'm THAT good. But in the pro's it's more relaxed and you can just sit back and pick your shots whereas the amateurs is just non stop. We'll see how it pans out.

lyricalflowz 03-17-09 01:04 AM

Yeah seems like the speed and tempo is up more with the amateurs. I know exactly what you mean. I'm pretty sure you got the speed though and the motor. Especially since you've been training nonstop.

I used to train MMA which involves ground work but after almost 2 years of it, it was never as fun as boxing.

_Talksic_ 03-17-09 02:08 AM

yea i use to train to..but now adays everyone and their mother are cagefighters.

Yea, I went to the body A LOT when I boxed because of the head gear I didnt see the point on trying to hit them there unless it was open, shots to the sternum and ribs, those will wear them out

Yup sure are. Kinda takes away from it cause just about anyone can get into MMA. It's not as hard to get into as sports like basetball or football.

JTR 03-17-09 03:11 AM

Yea, everyones a fighter til you beat the shit out of them, then you know who's a real cagefighter or not, so I don't care that its gotten so popular.

La Cosa Nostra 03-17-09 04:56 AM

boxing has nothing on kung fu.

JTR 03-17-09 05:08 AM

lol kung fu has nothing on muay thai

King Solo 03-17-09 08:57 AM

yeah, pretty much what baph said.

does it count if I've been in an organised fight pitting my friend who had been boxing for ten years against myself who had been doing kung fu for seven years and had also done tae kwon do for six years.

the fight lasted all of the time it took me to catch him with a jumping roundhouse kick to the face. which was about 8 seconds. lmao. i don't know if he was a pussy or anything, but he collapsed like a sack of potatoes.

all styles have their strengths and weaknesses, but kung fu when used correctly would tear most muoy thai fighters to shreds.

one way 03-17-09 09:30 AM

Fighting is dope, sport wise.....I wrestle, its pretty dope, been doing it since I was real young, and I took jujitsu when I was younger, you master jujitsu and you wont be loosing to many fights ever again.......I kinda want to get into it again or something a little more violent then wrestling, lol.

But then again, I could say that about any kind of martial art. Take Tae Kwon Do for example. My friend is an 8th degree black belt (dont know how that works) and I've seen him wreck dudes that have taken just about every martial art out there. And my friend is only 5' 3".

So to say that one would beat the other is kind of unfair.

La Cosa Nostra 03-17-09 12:33 PM

too bad hes a country away..

id fight him

He actually goes out there to visit his girlfriend who goes to school...somewhere in Australia. Or however you spell it. But yeah he doesn't just fight people...they usually try to pick on him cause he's so little and then baow! Next thing they remember is waking up haha.

But I respect all martial arts and really can't say that one is better than the other.

WhoAmI 03-17-09 03:29 PM

good luck with your fight...go give the dude some broken ribs and keep your guard tight :)

JTR 03-17-09 04:04 PM

lol @ arguing which martial arts is the best, that shit is so fucking stupid and pointless

it's about the fighter not the martial art, and training in all forms of martial arts to improve your striking, grappling and submission > training in just one martial art

and you all know that

03-17-09 04:36 PM

but that question is a deeper debate that doesn't rely on modern martial arts to be answered.

Martial arts did have an origination that is not defined, and therefore many ancient cultures had their own inner-definitions of practice fighting and fine tuning of body movement in a way that would overcome other humans and other culture's martial artists.

Only in recent times has this been defined in a general manner, as Martial Artists have come together across the world to make something more commercial.

Furthermore, when someone asks the question "Which martial arts are the best?", it's essentially being asked "Which secluded form of martial arts (Ex: Ju Jutsu) is better than all others when compared?"

and the question essentially would never have an ultimate answer because a lot of martial arts have come and gone through histories, as temples have been burnt down and written documents torn to shreds. Martial arts can be found in any self-defining culture that consists of people who have a respect for war and those who partake in it.

In modern times, it's irrelevant. People don't swing weapons anymore, they fire guns. So if you want to talk about some real martial artists of modern days, we might as well look to Special Ops forces and Robots.

Get hit with those kicks. Stuff hurts haha.

But yeah there is no point in trying to argue the better martial art or whatever. You should all join boxing so we can fight in the olympics.

Nynth Degree 03-17-09 07:55 PM

I got a friend who had his first MMA fight last week. I've been helping him train, so I was glad to see him win. Standing rear naked choke.

lol kicks hurt bro, i felt the same way about tae kwan do untilly I recently started training myself to learn some kicks I saw in some tae kwan do videos, a jumping 360 tornado roundhouse kick and a spinning reverse heel kick, they're deadly. If you train tae kwan do to perfect your kicks, and then train in other martial arts to perfect everything else then that would be usefull

i doubt any guy at 5"3' would be a challenge for you

Even if he was participating in state championhips and was at that level I still doubt he could rival me at all

At my heigh I doubt his kicks would be able to reach my head, but I wouldnt even need any flexibility to hit him with one to the head

Shit, I could knee him in the face at that height without even needing to pull him down lmao

03-17-09 10:01 PM

I'm weak and think fighting is lame.

JTR 03-17-09 10:02 PM

loving to fight, fighting for love

that's me..

03-17-09 10:04 PM

love is irrational, fighting is pointless

that's me...

ok... 1on1 fighting is pointless..

killing is necessary.

Until he jumps on your head and bites your forehead. Now THAT hurts.

JTR 03-17-09 10:34 PM

Ohh well if he wants to fight like that, so does me grabbing his nuts as hard as I can, then grabbing a chair and smashing him with it

Standing rear naked choke? Nice. How long has he been training and what state did you fight in?

Like I said, I took tae kwon do for 6 years before moving on to kung fu. kung fu pretty much owns everything. but tae kwon do may be predominately kicks but they are solid kicks.

As I said, my friend who had been boxing for 10 years.. he was muscly as hell, weighed about 250lbs and I've seen him take so many hard shots to the face and keep going. but when I hit him with one kick he folded up like an accordion. do not underestimate the power you can generate in a kick.

King Solo 03-18-09 10:26 AM

also...

bruce lee's kicks would own any fucking punch in the world.

at least back when he was alive. :)

He trained for about 6 weeks. Prior to that, he had trained a few other fighters, after I've been encouraging him to get into fighting for about a year.

And it was in Illinois.
