Well I Got A Mic And Shit But Not The Program Anymore I'm Trying To See What Kind Of Mic Everyone Else Is Using See If I Might Need A New One

WhoAmI 10-05-09 06:33 PM

it don't matter what everyone else has got...different mics have different frequency responses and as everyone has different voices, logically certain microphones will compliment your voice more than others...how does your voice sound to you when you use your mic?

Jay Rose 10-05-09 07:05 PM

whats your budget?

Hitta 10-05-09 08:40 PM

go with a blue tube, or a rode nt1..

WhoAmI 10-06-09 04:49 PM

Retribution 10-06-09 05:56 PM

Well I Got A AT4047 Condenser Microphone With The Stand And Pop Blocker And Shit With AKG Headphones.......From When I Used To Record It's A Little Old Not Really But Yea.....I Got It Brand New From A Buddy Of Mine For 250 Takes All But Yea...

Jay Rose 10-06-09 06:39 PM

stick to basics
you need pro tools
monitors
a good mic
and some sort of sound treatment

cheapest you can get pro tools is a mbox mini.... its like 250
monitors you dont want to get too cheap on... your lookin at least 100 to 150 per monitor
mic is key if you can match it with your voice....best over all mic within your budget is the st55.... trust
and than sound treatment... you can build a booth, treat your room but the most affordable, most travel friendly, and prolly the best sounding unless you drop serious cash is the reflexion filter.....

if your happy with the mic you have, you can cross that off the list, and what not but you need those four things for a decent set up

Retribution 10-07-09 12:36 AM

Word...Thanks Bro..Sound Treatment St55...Pro Tools Is Good Is It Hard To Fuck With?

WhoAmI 10-07-09 07:13 AM

easy to learn, difficult to master

Young Kidd (LM) 10-07-09 08:49 AM

^thats agreed.
I just started using protools and its easy to do the basics, harder if you trying to go all out.

but its definately worth it.

as for the Mbox.

I got the mini (as opposed to already having an Mbox 1)
but the mini is good for straight vocals. if your looking for midi you'll need the step up because thats the one capability not on the Mbox Mini. so if your planning to also make beats with ProTools you'll either need a different midi set up or a different mbox.

but for straight vocals i agree with Rose, i still have to get a reflection filter but i have most of the stuff he showd (well..different brands but still..)

Retribution 10-07-09 06:45 PM

Nah No Beats Just Straight Vocals Man Word....Thanks Man Appreciate This

Jay Rose 10-07-09 08:47 PM

dont go overboard with it...if its just a home set up keep it simple... anything worth dropping serious money on would be better spent with studio time and an engineer and im not just saying that because im an engineer!

seriously tho, my home shit is just an mbox mini, rode nt1a, and a treated portion of a room....but since i can mix its no big deal....what im trying to portray with this is, when i actually record important stuff, i go into a studio

Retribution 10-07-09 08:50 PM

Oh Naw Bro This Is To Start Audio Battling And Shit Just To Fuck Around On The Net Drop A Few Collabs Here And There But I'm Not Trying To Be A Big Star Bro Just Like To Rap As A Hobby

Young Kidd (LM) 10-08-09 08:40 AM

Jay....we have the same set up. lol same mic and mbox.

Jay Rose 10-08-09 11:18 AM

its a nice home set up....i just need monitors...which ill be getting soon

Young Kidd (LM) 10-08-09 01:19 PM

me too. right now im using some speakers i had that are pretty good quality, but i need some good monitors for the home set up too lol

Ltizzle 10-09-09 08:20 PM

$800 is more than enough to get a decent setup.

The RODE NT1A is an extremely solid mic. You'd be hard pressed to find a better one for the same price. I purchased one years ago and I couldn't have been happier. I'd advising staying away from the MXL mics personally.

Don't look over the cables that go with it either. Invest in some high quality XLR cables like Mogami Gold or something along those lines. After all, the cables are what the sound travels through to get to your mixer, so if you grab the cheap ones your quality is going to sound accordingly.

No need to go overboard though, just the basics and you should be good.
