There is a difference.

Hip Hop is tha culture. It's tha basic category of this type of music. Another form of hip hop is now called backpack rap. I hate that it's called that but thats how tha industry has evolved.

Rap is a subcategory. Rap is str8 gangsta, streetz, club type shit. I'ts what you hear on tha radio day in and day out. Rap is tha money maker.

Actually if u take it literally rap is just rhyming. So basically hiphop is the style of music we all love and rap is just spittin lyrics. But you can also rap on a rock track so rap is not exclusive to hiphop.

Rap is not a music style by itself. You can't say 50 cent makes rap music and KRS-one makes hiphop. They all make hiphop. Because that's their style of music.

^^^ Nicca, it's all hip hop like I said, but rap is the subcategory. No lie, nowadays hip hop is like those uplifting nicca. Common, Dead Prez, Mos Def, those nicca. Rap is 50, X, Jay, Fab, those niccas. But I feel what everybody is saying no doubt.

50 is not complete garbage hip hop. Why would that be? Cuz he's 4xs platinum? Thats not commercialized, thats just selling records.
