Thats not correct at all, but its as good an explanation as i can think of, so im gonna have to agree with that till someone puts a better one up. .

well:

Commerical - Focuses more on Money values, having money, having bitche's and phat rides. Having your albums widespread across the globe, artists attendting award ceromies etc..

Underground - Focuses on a more deepful meaningful concept to the raps. It's a struggle in real life. Your albums only getting local radio play and not being mass produced by a big record label.

This is more definition, but when i said, " Focuses on a more deepful meaningful concept to the raps. " - dosn't mean that commerical arists DON'T do it.

Mainstream is thought of as a stream because it is so shallow.

There is a show called Basmentalism in town that has played both, and I have seen an Atmosphere video on a local video show, and Aesop hosted the show.

Backpacker don't equal Underground...it just so happen that alot of backpacker are...becasue don't nobody outside they fan base know who they are....Lil Flip up until last year was underground, and he's the farthest thing from backpack you can imagine

Like I said..when you are on TV/Radio MTV on REGULAR ROTATION...of course MTV 2 gonna trip up and play somebody one time during they day, you can't play the same 4 or 5 rappers 24 hours even though they get pretty damn close to it..but you can't say "Yo, they played my video one time before so now I'm commercial"..When you start getin that play on the regular then yhea...You making it harder than what it is because you picked the wrong word.....just like you said.....what you should have said is underground/MAINSTREAM..thats the right word.....

Because if you break down the real meaning of Commercial, it means to sell something..so in that vain everybody is commercial in the technical since..You can sell fuckin 2 CDs..you commercial because you SOLD them.....but alot of poeple think the word commercial means the same thing as mainstream when it ain't....

Underground is not a specific genre of rap or any music. It's basically the people that haven't made it to the top yet. UNDERGROUND
