Nas The Greatest Breathing, Arguements?

So that i am understood im going to say this. I think Nas is the Greatest breathing and i am interested if any one agrees, if u do state a reason, if u disagree, then do the same. I think his originality, voice, technique, sales, and versatility along with ,of course, skill hollatchaboy RB 1luv.

Maven 10-08-03 11:03 PM

I think it is naive to classify anyone as better than anyone else. Once you get to a certain point in emceeing, it's all a matter of preference to the listener.

Mental God 10-08-03 11:16 PM

word

cold souljah 10-08-03 11:16 PM

i agree cuz i think he is the most lyrical rapper out there

Maven 10-08-03 11:20 PM

^ umm, by lyrical do you mean that he writes lyrics?
because I think all rappers do that.
Unless theres some crazy french Mime rappers...o.O

GameTime 10-08-03 11:29 PM

understatement put it perfectley...so up to me...Nas is the greatest breathing and non breathing...but just like understatement said....listeners preference

wogzta 10-09-03 12:57 AM

^ yeah hes one of the best, and hes one of the most creative with poetry etc., but lyrically eminem has got to be the best breathing (commercially anyway).. but Nas would come second, hes the king of NY since biggie died

Bigg E Z 10-09-03 03:22 AM

lol.....i dont think hes the Greatest, theres atleast 20 kids on here better than him.....He just layed the path.....

But....I do think Illmatic is WAAAAAYYYY better than Ready To Die..!!!
Now thats something to argue about..!!

MonStar 10-09-03 05:49 AM

nas is ill....one of the best out....but i dont know about being the best....i would say top 5.....

wogzta 10-09-03 06:45 AM

Illmatic is the definition of illness.... has anyone on here heard "lifes a bitch"?... the song is awesome.... yea, Nas had a better debut than biggie but overall, biggie has better albums than Nas (Nastradamus anyone?)

LM 10-09-03 07:53 AM

I reckon there are no rappers better than anyone else. There's so many different styles so we cant really say that ones better that the other.

Trah Siph 10-09-03 07:55 AM

one of the best alive..........................but if L was here he'd be the best..................................I think Eminem and Nas are fightin for the title tho......................

G. Buttersworth 10-09-03 09:23 AM

Nas' live performances, are garbage.

no breath control whatsoever... kinda lame if you ask me.

LM 10-09-03 12:45 PM

Yeah i think poetically nas is the best but eminem has the better raw lyrics if that makes sense. I know what i mean anyway

MyNd. FuLL 10-09-03 03:58 PM

true story...he sucked ass on the Rock the Mic tour...

while Nas tends to stay away from the typical subjects of commercial rap, he also tends to take it to far. its almost as if hes trying so hard not to be commercial that he is in fact making himself more commercial. (get it?) granted, he does have a few great CD's but i dont think that he can be classified as 'the best living'. there are simply way to many artists that are 1. underrated, or 2. are better than commercial rappers but lack the marketable qualities.

LM 10-09-03 04:16 PM

Like i said before theres too many different styles to say who is the best.

Oh yeah can some of ya's vote on my battle coz it's bein slept on the link is:

Best Breathing?

Did you forget about Eminem?, Talib Kweli?, Mos Def?, DMX?, Jay-Z?, I could go on and on for a while.

Nas is dope, don't get me wrong, but he's definately not the best. If Big L and Pac were still alive, then I'd consider them the best breathing.

Pz.

vociFERous 10-09-03 07:59 PM

blah...i ain't feelin Nas too much anymore

Accelerate 10-09-03 11:03 PM

Everyone Hop Off Pac and Eminem's Dick. Most of Who Posted Before keep mentioning those two.
His Live Performances are ass, though forreal, I Mean When He Performs 'One Mic' He can't control his breath. He Is Dope And Might be One of the best, In both commercial or underground, but It Depends on how ya see it. And Word To What Dezyir Said.

wogzta 10-09-03 11:36 PM

^ exactly, theyre the 3 best in the game right now (commercially)

wogzta 10-09-03 11:41 PM

^ that was in response to DaCurses post, i didnt read the 2nd page before i posted :(

Whats with saying hop off pacs and eminems dick? they have talent and they deserve to be acknowledged... just becoz you might not lyk them and think they suck doesnt mean everyone else does.. im yet to see anyone right a song as meaningful or insightful as pacs, and eminems lyrics are top notch and he practically invented his own style of hip hop... which today is probably the most famous rapper alive, and unlike some other commercial rappers (50 cent, ja rule, chingy, nelly etc.) eminem actually has some skill

Luminous 10-10-03 12:54 AM

^^^^
Yup...

You can't compare when you get to such a level...the best rappers alive right now are...

Jigga
Nas
Eminem

no questions asked...if you don't like either of these three..then i feel sorry for you...cause you're missin out on true hip hop...and no, I'm not going to argue with you...if you tell me different, you're ignorant...

anyway...my pick for "best rapper if he were alive" goes to Big L...without a shadow of a doubt...the man defines illness.

*Y_nOt* 10-10-03 01:21 AM

Wogsta...the reason why nas had a better debut after biggie was b/c biggie helped him get put on and market his album along wit jayz's album. As far as Nas being the best as of now i agree. Eminem to me is weak.....he's so over played and theirs to many dick riders on his nut'z......Theirs emcees out their that are way better than nas, jay, biggie, pac and em etc etc. They paved the way for all of us, im sure someone is going to blow up and just blow us away with his skillz and style.....1

.........................werd

wogzta 10-10-03 03:18 AM

^ im talking about commercially, you cant count someone u dont know whos "somewhere out there" as the best... and just cos lots of people like eminem doesnt mean hes "weak"... dude, thats like saying any popular MC sucks becoz lots of people like their music.. and thats fucked up. I wouldve said Nas is the best if he continued the way illmatic was going, but his albums after that (with the exception of It Was Written & Stillmatic) havent even come close to illmatic and some of his early spark was lost... i still think hes ONE OF THE BEST but not THE BEST...

ps. I didnt count the lost tapes cos i think those songs were recorded during the illmatic days (i think)

as for jayz, you gotta admit, this guy has a crazy flow and hes a pretty good lyricist. But he couldnt take eminem on lyrically or in a battle. hes still top stuff tho

so i stand by this: the top 3 living MC's are:
Eminem
Nas
Jay-Z

..peace

Eminems lyrics are not top notch... but, he does possess an uncanny ability to write seemingly perfect flows pieced together by beautiful transitions. but the well runs dry there..

everyone got caught up in the commercial marketability of Tupacs 'thug' image. regardless of what people say, i can name 10 rappers off the top of my head that possess more skill than Tupac. he wasnt revolutionary, NWA brought forth the whole 'gangsta' rap ordeal...he merely hopped on the bandwagon. seriously, youve got to ask yourself, if Tupac wasnt dead would 1. he be regarded anymore near the best of all time?, and 2. if you take away the whole 'thug' image, would anyone had even given a shit about him? the answer to that is a resounding 'No'. with the exception of a few tracks, most of his songs were derived of meanings and were either aimed at boosting his 'thug' appeal, or simply aimed at getting play on the radio. Tupac is without a doubt the most overrated rapper of all time.

Da NFamous 10-10-03 06:56 PM

i agree wit Y Not Eminem is in my mind beyond overrated but thats another arguement...Jay is creating poor quality music right now, the biggest hype this nigga had (with exception for the black album) is wheter or not he Sed Yao Ming in La La La. Nas is dropping hot shit still plus his career has produced more great songs than anyone else, Pac in my mind might not even touch Nas's song quality over his whole career. And as for "If were breathing" wtf kinda sense does that make, niggas aint breathing, dont ride, 1luv.

pCe 10-10-03 07:56 PM

nas got good lyrics but the beat of his songs is different
i like alot of songs by the beat..like on the blvd. by snoop

and dre...but nas is still awesome

Accelerate 10-10-03 09:28 PM

I Feel Tupac Was Known More Because Of His Physical Image.
If Biggie Was Skinny, and Tupac was Fat, Who Would Be Americas Most Relished Martyr? Tupac Had Amazing Skill For The Time Period He Was Out, And As Much As I Would Not Like To Admit It, He is Not The Best, Not Even Commercially. As Much As You Hate To Hear It, Jay-Z and Nas Are Better In The Commercial Areas. Tupac's Best Album Would Either Be All Eyez On Me or Me Against The World. On Commercial Hip Hop, Lets Make Comparisons.
vs. Aquemini
vs. ILLmatic
vs. Reasonable Doubt
vs. The Blueprint
vs. Black On Both Sides
vs. Quality
vs. StillMatic

The List Goes On, And Thats Just For Commercial Rappers. I May Not Change Opinions And Im Not Trying To Do That, But Some Opinions Are Backed Up By Minor Things, And I Doubt I Will Get Back A Decent Arguement That Tupac is The Best. Now Hold That!!!

...CaD-QuiP... 10-10-03 09:48 PM

.Nas Is Nice But Often Choses To Stay On The 'NY' Topic. Which After A While Gets Annoying, After Everyday We Here Him About NY And NY. He Has Done Alot Of Great Stuff Like 'Rewind' Which Was Dope. But Also Has Done Lots Of Garbage Tracks.

C-Section 10-10-03 10:51 PM

nas inst even orignal he jacked his style from rakim.

not saying he is wack, but noway you put nas over rakim when rakim gave nas his style

Maven 10-10-03 11:43 PM

werd...
I have to agree with Dezzizzle on this one.
Tupac was good....for his time period. He didn't really express many original thoughts, just talked about persecution in life, love etc. Everyone talks about this.
Pac is dope to listen to, but he really didn't possess as much talent as everyone gives him credit for. I read his poetry book "The Rose That Grew From Concrete" and it isn't nearly as good as half the poetry on this site alone.
It just talks about his life.

Formula 10-11-03 12:35 AM

I noticed that all the posts following mine.. Still none of ya'll mentioned Talib Kweli.. Is there some sort of biased towards commercially inclined MC's? I mean, yeah, Jay-Z is nice, Nas is Nice, Em is nice, but now I pose this questions.. What about Kweli?

Dope Wax 10-11-03 12:39 AM

Everyone knows Blondie was the greatest. . She rapped before all them hoes. :)

wogzta 10-11-03 02:00 AM

I dont consider pac the greatest lyricist, but he had the most meaningful songs of any rapper. even with commercial crap like california love, he was putting his heart and soul into every word he spoke, which makes him special. His songs meant something, and 90% of rappers these dont have any point to their songs. Canibus, for example, might be the greatest lyricist of all time, but almost everything he records is about how "hes the greatest", basically battle raps. I personally get bored of him spitting about his own skills for pretty much entire albums. Other rappers, like nelly and chingy, put in stupid, club songs like "hot in herre" and "right thurr", and sometimes even self degrading shit like "pimp juice", one of the worst rap songs ever recorded. IM nto saying Nas, Jay z dont have meaningful songs, and they do, but theyre nothing on 2pac. And to top it off, 2pac isnt bad with lyrics himself either, id still put him in the upper class level of rappers, lyrically...

Accelerate 10-11-03 08:57 AM

I Think The Feeling He Put in Songs Were Great, But I Still Don't Consider Him To Be in The Top 10 Or 20, Alot of Mainstream Rappers Shit On 2Pac, Yet They Don't Even Know It. And Underground, Shit, There Would Go His Chance Completely. Remember, 2Pac Is Considered The Greatest Now, Because thats How America and Any Other Country Portrays Him As. And When He Died, Thats When He Became Loved, But I Never Liked 2Pac, And I Never Will, Because To Me, He Fucked Up On His Own, He Signed His Own Death Basically, And Beef Is Created Over Some Bullshit Mistake, He Was Basically Talented, But If Anything, Is Responsible For Some Of Problems In Rap Today. And You Guys Criticize Rappers Who Forever Stay On The Same Old Topic. Most Of His ALbums is On Are On The Same Shit, And Look at Some Of His SOngs, For clubs and Shit, Yet Rappers Who today Attempt to Make A Few Of Those Songs Get SHitted On, Because Most Likely They Ain't Die Or Whatever. If 50 Cent Died, You Know How Many People Would Jump On To His Dead Dick and Never Let Go? Maybe Not Us, Because We Don't Consider Him Shit, But We are Not The Majority, Which Is The Same As Tupac.

LM 10-11-03 09:16 AM

I agree that once an artist dies they suddenly become more popular. But didnt the conversation start about nas. We've gone way off track here. What we think bout 2pac doesnt matter coz this is about the best rapper BREATHING. I dunno who that is but i think it's between nas and eminem.

Talib is dope. Theres no doubt about that. There aren't many arguements people can put to that, which is why nobody posted about him. It's much easier to post about Pac, who is so clearly over rated. Talib is not the best breathing. There are tons of people who I would say are doper than talib, but that is just because I enjoy their music more. Which all goes back to preference.

Talib is ill...but don't get it twisted...he ain't even close to Jay Z's level...in the following categories:

Flow
Lyrics
Flavor
Delivery
Staying power
Releases

The three best rappers alive are

Jay Z
Nas
Eminem

this is fact to true hip hop heads (real recognize real)...but do understand, that I realize these three people are beat in some categories...such as...canibus may have more sicker lines than Jay Z or eminem at times, or Talib may have more deeper lines than eminem at times...etc etc...its a toss up if you look at it like that...but I say they are the three best alive right now, becuase they statistically are the best in each category per every song and album when compared to other artists...
