Rolling Stone's Top 500 albums of All-Time

RIGHT HERE

It's a long ass list but interesting to all you music fanitics out there. What irks me is how even though hip-hop has took over it still gets fronted on by the "music critics", The highest hip-hop album is at 48 and it's not that many, and the choices (Where the hell is 2Pac!? PE should be higher up the list. THREE of Eminem's Cds made it!?!? Com'on dog!!)

D-Dizzle 11-22-03 11:36 AM

I found the bearkdown of the list to just hip-hop albums so this makes it easier ..

48. It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, Public Enemy
120. Raising Hell, Run-DMC
133. Ready to Die, The Notorious B.I.G.
137. The Chronic, Dr. Dre
144. Straight Outta Compton, N.W.A
154. The Low End Theory, A Tribe Called Quest
156. Paul's Boutique, Beastie Boys
217. Licensed to Ill, Beastie Boys
227. Paid in Full, Eric B. and Rakim
240. Run-DMC, Run-DMC
248. Reasonable Doubt, Jay-Z
273. The Slim Shady LP, Eminem
300. Fear of a Black Planet, Public Enemy
302. The Marshall Mathers LP, Eminem
312. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Lauryn Hill
317. The Eminem Show, Eminem
346. 3 Feet High and Rising, De La Soul
359. Stankonia, Outkast
386. Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers, Wu-Tang Clan
400. Illmatic, Nas
444. Criminal Minded, Boogie Down Productions
459. Strictly Business, EPMD
464. The Blueprint, Jay-Z
477. The Score, Fugees
478. Radio, LL Cool J
483. Life After Death, The Notorious B.I.G.
497. Yo! Bum Rush the Show, Public Enemy

Baron Mynd 11-22-03 11:36 AM

I knew the beatles and elvis would be up there ..

they hate black people ..

C-Section 11-22-03 11:44 AM

damn they need to hop off PE's dicks. and em has 3 CD' over illmatic? ill matic should be the #1 rap CD on that list

Crysis 11-22-03 11:47 AM

that list sucks

MuhThugga 11-22-03 12:07 PM

Hmmm.....
whatever happened to Tupac - Me Against the World?

None of Eminem's CDs should be on that fucking list

Blueprint shouldn't be on there.......

Stankonia shouldn't be on there either.......try one of their older albums like ATLiens

And I guess everyone forgot about GZA - Liquid Sword

or the Blackstar album....how can that NOT be on there?

And Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein is a must for any top Hip-Hop albums.....

Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus is another must......

El-P - Fantastic Damage and Aesop Rock - Float should also be on that list.......

That list is terrible.......I'm going to write to them about it.

Crysis 11-22-03 12:10 PM

^word......like i said....this list sucks ass

self 11-22-03 12:47 PM

137. The Chronic, Dr. Dre <-No...no...no
144. Straight Outta Compton, N.W.A <-The start of "Gangsta Rap" Confuckingratulations.
273. The Slim Shady LP, Eminem =/
312. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Lauryn Hill "I love Lauryn Hill...really, her songs are so great, especially the lyrics she sings that other people write" - Sage Francis (I can't remember the exact quote)

LoCo 11-22-03 02:12 PM

i agree with everyone.. cept for the following
alot of Em's albums was hard.. but not better then IllMatic, well maybe on is compared to it, but that was his first... but not quite there yet... And Pacs All Eyes On Me or Me Against The World .. should at least get props, shit maybe even biggies 'Ready To Die' FUCK ELIVS, PE = wack anyway fuck em all

RythmicTendicies 11-22-03 02:54 PM

at least one of tupac's albums should've been there..

I agree that Eminem should be on the list..maybe not 3 times, but he deserves to be there..stop hating ffs..it's gettin' tiresome.

Illmatic should be higher up..and there should be at least ONE rap album in the top 20....

O Healthy Begin 11-22-03 03:47 PM

dont forget this is a mainstream magazine covering all genres im suprised we got some dope albums in, muhthugga i agree wid u there was some blazing ommisions but most of the public havent even heard of cannibal ox or Aesop Rock yet alone heard float

im actually wid c-section on this chuck d is dope but that album is serverely overated and illmatic should be the no1 rap album

Baron Mynd 11-22-03 03:51 PM

^ Well there isnt, dont cry about it, go make your own fucking list if you dont like it ..
Eminem shouldnt be on there, period. Let alone him having 3 CD's on the list. And i disagree with Bruk here .. Public Enemy were awesome back in the day, they should be up there but yeah .. its top 500 albums, not top 500 rap albums.

Dont like it, dont bitch, go and make a fucking list of your own ..

C-Section 11-22-03 05:00 PM

<- already made a list of top 50 rap albums. :D

Chrit 11-22-03 05:04 PM

Illmatic at 400 is a definate joke

Mr.Christensen 11-22-03 05:12 PM

funny thing about that list
they were all comercial

hint hint

Baron Mynd 11-22-03 05:14 PM

^ My point exactly.

I checked the site.....they have reviews for Cannibal Ox and Bazooka Tooth.....but Float and Labor Days should be on there....

Cold Vein is a definite.....

and to spare the argument of "it is a mainstream magazine"

Still doesn't leave out Liquid Swords and BlackStar

Public Enemy is dope, but they pretty much have every single PE album listed. NWA is a toss-up.....personally....I don't think so.....
The Chronic.....I don't care what any of you nostalgic fucks say....this album is garbage.....I have yet to like a Dre CD that has been released....

And Eminem should not be on there at all......

Kost 11-22-03 07:12 PM

yeh this list s awful...not so much that the first hip hop albulm is 43 but the order in which the hip hop albulms are placed

eminem has three of the top 500

eminem is terrible

illmatic is 400? please

wogzta 11-22-03 07:32 PM

that list is fucked, where the hell is 2pac, and illmatic should be NUMBER ONE on that whole list.... and how the hell is the slim shady LP better than Marshall mathers LP and the eminem show? let alone illmatic, 2pac albums, and life after death by biggie.... <rips hair out in frustration>

junio sixnine 11-22-03 07:45 PM

at least 3 albums from pac and 2 albums from biggie should have been there. i could only agree with the marshall mathers lp bein on there, but not so good. illmatic gota be in the top 50.

HaycH 11-22-03 10:04 PM

400.. haaah pure joke

Accelerate 11-22-03 10:11 PM

only 2 Pac that I believe deserves to be there is "Me Against the World".Wheres "Aquemini" by Outkast? ILLmatic, 400? LMFAO, they fucked over, no matter where it seems, Nas always seems to get fucked over somehow. Eminem? I like some of his songs, but No, his albums don't deserve to be there.

MuhThugga 11-22-03 10:39 PM

I think it was based on a matter of who sucked who's dick the best......
or money had something to do with it.....

I heard one of Beatles albums and it wasn't that great.....
of course, the generation that compiled this list probably grew up on the Beatles and were attached to their nutsacks much like 90% of teenagers today are on Eminem's....so whatever

wogzta 11-22-03 11:51 PM

^ the rolling stone is a mainstream magazine written by people from the 70-80's era and they'll vote on the basis of either:

1. What has sold the most
2. What is most commercialised
3. The artists that were considered great in their era of music.

The only reason illmatic is there at all is because they know real hip-hop fans know it's the best. But they prolly haven't even heard it.

And yo, C-Cection let see that list, so we can clown on you for what you did/didn't put on there...LoL..

^ Basically summed up this list.

C-Section 11-23-03 01:26 PM

my top 50 list, they arent in order but they are the top 50 rap CDs in my opinion, i know some of you wont agree with alot of picks cause i have some gangster rap on it, but i grew up listening to gangster rap and im not going to front like some of those gangster rap CDs aint classics just because i dont listen to gangster rap anymore

MuhThugga 11-23-03 03:49 PM

I'm thinking that you should have put Lucy Ford on there instead of God Loves Ugly.....and Here to Save You All instead of I Told You So...at least on that album Chino got the tracklisting right......

D-Dizzle 11-23-03 05:53 PM

I can't really argue with what you got too much C...You didn;t try to get all smart like some people do and put shit from 1985 up there like they was up on shit when they was 3 years old...LoL....

I thought The Fix was tight but The Diary was Scarface's best album

with Masta Ace I thought Slaughtahouse doper then Disposable

I don;t know about Rip the Jacker..

No Ghostface's Supreme Clientel??

But for the most part I think thats a dope list though...

but right know i like lucy ford more, now that i understand what atmosphere is about.
