How would this be

Im gonna be saving up soon for a setup, I just wanna be sure i know what to get so I was thinking

M-Audio MobilePre USB Portable Audio Interface For 150

Yamaha MG10/2 Stereo Mixer For 100

Emu1212m For 100

AKG Perception 200 If I hurry on this one I can probly get it for 100 from a friend.. but if not 150

What should I be getting for cables if anything? and is there anything I should be changing from there?\

Somebody told me mixers was something i dont need, is this true?

∆ P E X X 01-03-07 10:17 PM

if you get the mobil pre, or any other interface for that matter, you won't need the mixer or the soundcard.
its either or, not both.

and if i were in your shoes, i'd get an m-audio fast track usb instead of the mobil pre and spend the difference in a better mic.

and go for mogami wires if you can afford em or monster cables if you can't.

Sir Smash'Alot 01-03-07 10:19 PM

So I shouldnt get the soundcard if I get the M Audio?

edit: nvm thats what you said, tthanks

what mics would you reccomend?

∆ P E X X 01-03-07 10:40 PM

with the money you've already got earmarked, the sterling ST55 by far. it's a knock off of the Groove Tubes GT55 which i use, just that it's made by the same cocksucker that designed my mic!

if it existed at the time, i woulda bought it. trust me

Thats it? If so, Its only 50 dollars more then the AKG Perception 200 one is on MusiciansFriend.com anyways, which is cool. Thanks, at least im not gonna waste money now.. Which is usually what I end up doing

Okay one more question.. Do I need a phantom power supply?

WhoAmI 01-04-07 11:48 AM

depends in your interface has one built in...
if you get the fast track pro it costs more than the usb version that apexx suggested but you will have phantom power for your mic

Sir Smash'Alot 01-04-07 01:01 PM

well the M Audio one said it had it built in I think let me check again...

Quote:
#
# 2 microphone inputs (XLR balanced) with 48V phantom power

Is that what i need?

WhoAmI 01-04-07 02:27 PM

yeh you'll be fine with that

so which mic you planning on getting?

Sir Smash'Alot 01-04-07 03:38 PM

sterling ST55 is what im getting, the one apexxx reccommended till I hear its horrible, he said it sounds like his though, and yeah. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/prod...-Mic?sku=271356

∆ P E X X 01-04-07 07:54 PM

dont get the m-audio mobil pre. it's 16bit. the fast track is 24bit.

and yes it makes a difference.

Sir Smash'Alot 01-04-07 08:41 PM

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/prod...face?sku=241710 this one?

nvm

∆ P E X X 01-05-07 01:54 AM

you can get a fast track and phantom for way cheaper than that.

about half.

unless you record with 2 mics at once, that's useless.

Sir Smash'Alot 01-05-07 09:27 AM

any phantom power supply will work? will the one I pick affect my sound at all?

∆ P E X X 01-05-07 03:52 PM

nope. all phantoms are created equal.
