Emo/Proggressive-Hop
 

So, I'm curious what everyone thinks about these often unknown branches of Hip-Hop. Personally, I love it, and being a someone who was raised in the roots of Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, and Rage Against the Machine I really have found what I've always wanted from Hip-Hop in these genres.

Emo-Hop would be classified by its front running emcees such as Slug of Atmosphere, and the industry proclaimed "Godfather of Emo-Hop," Sage Francis. While your typical artists merely glitter in the now and then's of emotional release along albums, these artist almost etirely devote their lyrical excusions to self analysation, intellectual foreplay, and strive to shatter the bounds of what is considered "hip-hop." A few artists to look into are:

Sage Francis
Atmosphere
Deep Puddle Dynamics
Sole
Alias
Dose-One

Progressive-Hop is another field that just continues to amaze me. With tracks slipping in and out of a concious state of "rap" and often tetering the brinks of spoken word more so than Hip-Hop at all. Crisp creative productions, mind blowing approaches and all around new sounds. A few artists from this sub-genre are:

Eydea & Abilities
Sixtoo
Buck 65
Dynospectrum

So, just tell me what you think, feel free to name drop some artists that may be of interest aswell.

Well, to be completely honest I see that shit as more of a gateway for suburbanites to start enjoying hip hop. It's not real hip hop IMO. That doesn't take away the fact that they DO have talent and I will listen to it sometimes, but all it sounds like sometimes is mindless babble that the coffee-shop intellectuals can call "poetic". I support the idea of it because it will bring a wider array of fans in, but it's not my ideal style.

Its called origionality.....

I can respect this style of music because its essentually bohemian and their doing something that hasnt really been done on a wide-spread basis before. Although I gotta say, I'm not a huge fan of it either...

And you can definatly tell why their style doesent have much mass appeal...

But props to them for doing their own thing and not being a generic industry slut like all of blay's faverite rappers....

seriously, all i was saying is that flow and presence are skills to, that all of these "rappers" lack...

and Weezy would KILL Sage Francis or Atmosphere in a battle... they'd be comin on some pre-written shit talkin about astronomy and the horizon and shit lol... and originality isnt a part of it at all, he just listed a bunch of rappers it wasnt one... its just a different group doing a different thing, no more original...

but in conclusion, i got nothing against these guys, theyre doin their thing and i even listen to it on occasion, i was just saying there are vital skills they lack as MC's too...

I listen to mainly underground the artists I listed, but I do have my mainstream favorites aswell, but Young Jeezy is a joke. Honestly, the south has nothing to offer the music industry aside from club bagers. I mean, there's Ludacris who has skill, and that's really about it, T.I. is decent but his hooks are so bland and uncreative. All he does is make one line for a hook and then repeat it 15 times, drop 10 bars, and go back into a repetetive hook. Crunk, is saying nothing, it's about dancing in the club, which is cool... FOR DANCING IN THE CLUB.

Personally I need my music to have something creative and intellectually stimulating... Unique. Music today is based apon carbon copy because sales > art. But Young Jeezy no matter what... Sucks. Nas, Rakim, most of the Wu-Tang Clan, Common... These are artists that have something to say, and say it in unique and creative ways.

Damn, I fucking hate southern rap so much, it's really just such a joke... Southern rap to Hip-Hop is what Country is to Rock.

Eeeeeeeerm, or it kind of does. The "R" stands for Rhythem which is an intricate aspect of lyracism. But, you are quoting 50 Cent in your custom title... So I wouldn't really expect you to know that.
