Word Clock

how much of a difference would a word clock device make to my constantly growing studio setup?

word clock? never heard of it

by any chance are you talking about a metronome?

WhoAmI 03-29-07 01:29 PM

it's something like that...it's an external sync device that keeps everything in time....like for example the Drawmer D-Clock which i may get depending on the necessity of having it

∆ P E X X 03-29-07 03:26 PM

i dunno man, if you have problems keeping things in synch, you might want to get your tallent to up their skills.

if you can't even spit on a beat.....why are you even in the studio?

that's the way i see it

WhoAmI 03-29-07 04:21 PM

nooooooooooooooooooooo i aint talking about my spitting cos im more than capable of staying on the beat lol

the word clock device keeps other devices in sync or some shit like that...i don't even know if it's necessary but places here and there claim all top studios have those devices for keeping all their effects devices and stuff like that in sync with each other

∆ P E X X 03-29-07 07:43 PM

im not sayin you personally man lol. i did some reading up on it and basically its a synchronizer. seems somewhat uselessin a digital application where there is no latency, but in analog where there's so many links in the chain taking their time to process the signal it might come in handy.

guess the real test is if you have delays and slowdowns between input to mic and input to computer.
But im a firm believer in if you're using a DAW make it a DAW. keep analog to an extreme minimum. a Mixer AT MOST and that's just to get the tubes, should still terminate as USB or firewire if possible. Digital data formats are colorless and lossless, so why would i want to fiddle with XLR?

naddamean?

WhoAmI 03-29-07 07:56 PM

yeh for real i hear you i didn't really wanna get into using too much analogue equipment but a lot of people i know who work in studios will swear by the hands on approach they get from using analogue lol

but iunno i've grown and developed as a producer using DAWs etc. but i definitely do wanna get hold of the fantom x-r sound module though, thas for sure lol

i didn't think i would need wordclock but i wanted to make sure
