How hard is it to get a Job?

How hard is it to actually get a job in America these days. People say its soo easy and tell people to just go get one. But true story....is it really that easy?

Like what actually makes it hard or easy to get a job. Apperance, people you know, education, enviorment, or just the location of the job. I have applied for over 20 jobs in the last two years and only got accepted to two of them. One was blockbuster another was a Student worker at my college which I am working at. Blockbuster because i know some of the people and they put in recommendations for me. Student Worker because the launch lady thinks im sexy and enjoys looking at my ass. But in all serious. Do you really have to know the person to get employed. Im a well eudcated young man for my age and I performed better than the standards at my given age. I carry myself like a gentlemmen and what not. And when time calls i am very well spoken. Yet i still find it hard to get a job. So What do you all think about the job situation.

Also some of your stories would be cool and what not aswell with employment.

try being legally blind :( nobody wants a blind mafucka workin fo them. i work at mcdonalds now, but cuz of my eyes i can only do maitenance work. and i only got hired cuz a couple people there recomended me. i applied at alot of places, even at blockbuster when like 4 people quit and they were really desperate. = tha longer i have to go without a job = not havin much experience = employees dont want people wif no experience = FUCK MY EYES

and also, not being able to git my license cuz of my eyes = not having transportation = having to find a job somewheree close to where i live = bullshit. werd

It's really not that difficult for the average person.

Smile, be agreeable, be malleable, all they want is for you to push their buttons. People think employers want to be bored with endless babble about why you're so great, the very same few pages they read from almost every applicant, all of whom believe they are special and more worthy than the next poor sap who thinks in exactly the same way. Just tell them, with honesty that shines like a rare emerald amongst a sea of shit, what you're all about.

For example, I have never done any audio engineering training courses, nor have I ever worked as an audio engineer. All that I have in regard to such things is what I learned as an amateur rapper messing around with Cool Edit Pro. Nevertheless, I applied for a freelance job editing some audio. I don't have the cover letter I sent, but it was very direct, in simple words it said: "Look, I won't bore you with long introductions. I believe I am able to do the job you need done, here is my proposal and opinion. How does that sound?"

A day later, I received this reply:

John,

Your suggestion of a sample file is a good one. I have created a 7min clip of a 1.5 hour session. I didn't attend the session so I am not sure where the microphone was placed. The entire recording is made up of different presenter sessions with clapping in between.

The link for the sample file is at http://www.wikipacifica.org/ftp/index.html

This job I want to trial is to split each sessions into single files (between the clapping) and just "tidy" things up i.e. get the levels right and remove the background hum.

Depending on my client's acceptance of the outcome, it may lead into blogs and podcasts etc. But that is further down the track.

Anyway let me know when you have done the sample and if it is OK I may want an estimate of how long ($) it would take to do the same thing to 1.5 hour f ile.

Thanks

Lindsay

In the end, I was hired for that project. Some employers are idiots, they crave all that bullshit and equate it with competence. I definitely wouldn't get hired by such a person, but to be honest, I wouldn't want to be.

Hmm I've applied for over 50 jobs up here in Toronto, and I haven't worked a day in my life yet...

Its about presistence...with my job i applied, than i went in and talked to someone, than i came back 2 days later and again talked with someone which ended up giving me an interview. Than i got a job the next day, than like 2 months later i got a promotion up to were i'm at now, and i'm looking at another promotion in the next month....

all in all, its a mix of good luck, presistence and hard work....one of the three usally will get you a job...
