advice please..

ey what up. i was just wondering what the majority of you guys use when ya doin ur beats......

my set up is very limited...

i use a boss br8 (digital 8 track taht records on to zip disks)

and i use this freeware beat program called hammerhead....

i make the beat on the computer than put it on the disk....then record mainly keyboard shit through my 8 track

just was wondering bout all these fuckin crazy programs and shit, isnt all that shit expensive? and it all seems so fuckin complicated to be able to get comfrtable enough to really use it good.

any more simple shit out there???

thats why i like hammer head, even though its kinda wack because its so limited....its just really really easy to use

any replies would be really appreciated

Simplicity is not always a good thing. You need to learn the more advanced programs to broden your production horizons. Reason, and cubase SX are great programs. You could even use fruity loops if you want, its better than hammerhead.

I have to disagree eith u^^^ on the keyboard thing, keyboards, if using the right ones can enhance ur creativity a lot. They have many features samples, SFX, and so on, most come with a computer software. If u know how to compose and what not keyboards can be ur best friend, however hammerhead is crap and for editing what u've recorded a host application is good but if u have on board effects then u can use those

Just get Sonar 3 producer edtion and Fruity loops 4.1 studio and Sound Forge 6.0 and that is all you ever will need. If you cant make tight Beats with these you are handcapt. so stop making beats.

i do all original compositions and beats. i dont use samples at all. i make music

If your good at keyboards, and have a nice keyboard, stick to it, you'll do better with it than with shit on Fl Studio...but I would suggest learning how to transfer shit back and forth from Fruity loops, Acid, Or Reason, Whatever The Fuck You Wanna Use, So in case you wanna use certain samples you can and you can be more professional with beats and effects probably on Fl Studio or Reason, etc.

by the way, I made songs on a keyboard way back and was pretty good at it, I had serious creativity, but it's just hard to work with unless it's good. I Got A MD-1700 from radio shack...my dream keyboard was the triton or a pro roland or this top of the line yamaha keyboard...forgot what it's called but it was like pro2000, really serious keyboard. just some shit I thought I'd let you know

You dont need a bad ass Keyboard and you can make your own samples with a basic Keyboard just make sure it has midi and you can use it in FL and Sonar 3 ( BTW Sonar 3 has all the instraments in it that you mentioned before about the Keyboards) so you can turn your shitty Keyboard with MIDI into thousands of dollars in keyboards.) Just a thought.... Yea i would not sujest using the smaples FL has but when the program is used right you can make sick beats. You have to be Creative but I guess that is needed anyways when you make music. Holla

LOL 11-12-03 01:45 PM

If your SERIOUS about making beats, i suggest you dont try selling your fruity loop beats, just use that program to boost your experience.

I do agree with insanity, keyboard are great for music, you wont usually get a great melody without one unless you are extremely good with cubase or reason. However, a good mix with the keyboard and cubase or reason would be deadly.

...OpeY... 11-12-03 01:47 PM

u can do the same with a keyboard and fruity.

jego 11-12-03 04:04 PM

yeah i dont have a real bad ass keyboard. my basic mode of transfering files is recording from my keyboard onto a zip disk on my 8 track which i can use on my comp as a wave file.....so which program is would be the best ??? reason? fruityloops? i heard alot of shit but what would be the best that is easy for beginners but still has room for the complicated shit. i just want somethin taht i can catch on to easily at first.

thanks for all the feedback by the way

you dont need a $1000 dollar keyboard. any real producer on here will realize that softsynth is here to stay. a oxygen8 is all you really need. you dont need banks on your keyboard when you can buy programs that are packed with them and let you make your own (and i know you can make banks on the high end keyboards my pops has a wavestation).

e-mu and creative labs got together and banged out "soundfonts". any producer whos got a computer based studio should have heard of these. if you got fruity try to find soundfonts as soon as possible.

reason is wack because it dont allow plugins.

sonar is best used when you actually have a keyboard

fruityloops is the shit for now but its kinda buggy with vst plugins (like sampletank)

LOL 11-14-03 12:33 PM

Reason is wack? Are you insane?

That and cubase are probably the best programs out there.

Fruityloops is good to start with but youll be extremely limited. Its not that great of a program.

On mp3.com all the ill producers use more complex programs than fruityloops.

Tha Duce 11-14-03 07:06 PM

LOL your on Crack you can use anything and make it Ill, It just depends on what you like and how creative you are. open your mind up fool. FL is NO diffrent than Reason infact Reason is alot more limited due to its inclosed program so you cant use samples from anyware else online you get the plug in from cakewalk called rewire that changes that and creates a interface for all your audio programs. and your saying if you have a bad ass keyboard you can make good beats well that is the same as fuityloops cauz it uses a squencer style intraface in most keyboards. and Cubase try steping up to sonar 3 or Pro tools CUbase is qute a few years old and does not have all the features as thous too. I have uesed all these programs and I personly like Sonar 3 producer editon and FL 4.1 and Soundforge 6. BUt if a person likes another program over another then let them use it cauz its based on the person not the program. Peace

INsanity 11-14-03 08:02 PM

um^^^ Cubase just got stepped up like 1-2 months ago man, SX 2, know ur facts otherwise i agree its what u like, oh by the way do u know where i can get ReWire so i can link my Acid and Cube?
