Amazing fact: When you gaze up at certain stars in the night sky...

You're looking back in time!

Some stars are so far away, trillions of miles, that it takes the light emitted from them years to reach us. That means the light you're looking at right now could have been first emitted back in 2001 or 2002. It's just now reaching your eyes!

Think about it. That means RIGHT NOW light is being generated by a star. However, you won't see it until YEARS from now. Just imagine if you could be there, see the light, then somehow beat it before it got to the observers. That = time travel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that's such a simple yet AMAZING fact to ponder.

Time Travel...phew...here we go again!

distilled 01-16-06 08:39 AM

haha, dont tell me you only just found tis out.

and that doesnt equal time travel, but faster than light travel.

In a way it migt be actually. dont think so tho

Dawg...NO, I didn't just figure this out...My degree is in science which I got YEARS ago...

Just thought about it last night because it was such a clear night out

And, if you could somehow warp time and space to "beat" that light as it travels, that would be time travel. Einstein's special theory of relativity discusses how approaching the speed of light slows time, thereby opening up the possibility of past and future time travel.

Mad Dog 01-16-06 12:09 PM

Q's right some stars are already dead by the time we can se them...

i watched a program bout time travel...Einstein said that it would be impossible to go any faster than the speed of light...but quite frankly...why can't we go faster?...

the theory is like what Q said...when you hit light speed everything around you basically stops...to go faster than light effectively would be to go into the past

there was a spaceman russian man who they actually tested they believe he went at least 1/5000th of a second into the past because they measured his vital stats and saw how he aged and blah and that and the fact he was travelling @ over 50,000mph (while orbiting earth)

but ye i think time travel is possible...but i don't think time travel has the ability to "change the past"...because my own theory is that time in itself has it's own plan...and that if we travel back or forward...then it only relates to our own time contuinium because if time travel WAS possible...and in the DISTANT future (coz lets say for arguments sake time travel becomes possible) something could essentially happen when someone travels back in time that could do something like stop me from ending this post.

and it all falls down to this...there IS NO future...i mean if there is...then time travel should be possible or perhaps there is a future....and time travel never became possible...

because lets face it...the future is anything ahead of the time we are in now...so that is anything up to the day there is nothing...

or

like i said earlier time travel became possible...but we can't "change what's now" we only contribute to what happened in the past...not change it

it's a tough subject...in all honesty i don't think we'll EVER be able to travel through time because nothing is happening now...and with especially whats going on...you'd think someone from the future would come back and slap someone

OR

someone did come back and got slammed up in an institution...< more than likely

interesting topic guys. glad to see there is intellectual life on this site after all.

distilled 01-16-06 12:34 PM

It is though, just a theory.

Noone knows what could happen when we travel faster than light. But yeh, i see what you mean, in a relative sense it would actually be time travel.

Its never clear enough to see stars well here.

KOOL COL-B 01-16-06 05:12 PM

i wish i could go thru time, id buy a shit load of Nintendo games n shit fo like $1 each then go back 2 wen they 1st came out n git PAID

and give Eazy-E a box of condoms :(

so much shit i would change, werd

... Learned this so long ago ...

B.I.Detained 01-16-06 05:23 PM

lmao, they taught me this when I was unborn. But still good to know I guess.

Valerie 01-16-06 05:25 PM

damn man this is some dope shit.

Critic 01-16-06 05:33 PM

I have read about this but its totally impossible for us to travel by the
speed of sound.

In theory it kind of makes sense but it has been scientifically proven
that we can't travel on a beam of light.

I shake my head at the people whose response to this thread is, "This is so old." What does learning this fact a long time ago have to do with the discussion of it now? I'm sure we ALL learned about "God" a long time ago and yet we still post threads about it. Don't we?

Stop being pricks people.

As for this subject, I find it amazing. Time travel does occur though, on a micro scale.

Think about it.

Compose 01-16-06 06:44 PM

Yea I knew about this

shits crazy too if the sun exploded we wouldnt notice for like 7 and a half minutes I think it is.

I think you mean speed of light cuz weve been done speed of sound like 100 times more.
