Heh. .
i dunno what you guys listen to nowadays but for me - what im into now i dont even class as hiphop, id class it as a form of poetry.
I got pretty into underground stuff from last year, caught into the hype of Aesop etc, started understanding more about the way he wrote and what made him dope, it wasnt his vocab / flow etc, but his ability to show his writers voice over a track with emotion and complexity while still remaining pretty abstract and doing it for his love of the music. Gradually i got into the Living Legends and Aceyalone and what they do is a LONG way away from what i first considered hiphop. Its not like they have the greatest flow or anything, its just that what they are stating is so real and powerful, their writers voice accompanied with a beat that fits the emotional side is some of the best ive heard ever, very poetic, but i wouldnt consider them hiphop, id say their more poetry-esque, spoken word over a beat. But i dont class them as hiphop even though thats basically what they do.

Your thoughts?

I Think Your Right. I Find It To Be More Poetic Than What I Consider Hip-Hop Right Now. But Hip Hop Is a Culture, Even Still Like All Music, It Evolved to Form Something Else, Maybe soon The Underground Artists Will Get Their Respect, Like Hip Hop Began To Get Exposure in The Late 80s.

Salvation 10-07-03 06:56 PM

fuck hip hop

C-Section 10-07-03 06:56 PM

Mental God 10-07-03 07:33 PM

<----is really into poetry also... im editor for a magazine for my school... i got to make a feature poet for the month and i chose slug... i got alot of people at my school to download some of his music and now in the school parkin lot i heard god loves ugly all over the place... its funny too cause they all act like they been listening to him for years or somethin

D-Dizzle 10-07-03 07:38 PM

I'm finding myself drifing more and more toward that type of hip-hop..and yes I do think it's hip-hop just a different kind...I listen to it sometimes just to change from the same old shit all the time....all the club shit is coo..but I don;'t feelin like dancin all the damn time..the thug shit is cool..but it ain;t good for your health walking 'round mad all the time so....thats my in between music..I guess me being a artist myself even if I don;t like a particular style I still respect it for what it is.....ITs a place for all of that shit..even though sometimes I get turn off by how some of these backpack emcees just have total disdane for the beat and just spittin words all over the place and pass it off like, "yhea thats my style, I'm on that next shit"..naw nigga you just off-beat....

Gonzo 10-07-03 08:42 PM

Hmm, If its not classified as Hip-hop, then what is it?

Id still say it was hip-hop, just a different Genre, one thasts yet to be really discovered..Or you could be broad about it and call it underground..Most commercial cats dont go for the poetic thing..But there are some cats who amaze me, such as

Eminem
Talib Kweli
Rise

I think all those folks have unreal lyrical skills..and there commercial (for the most Part)

I definatley enjoy the lyrical content of music more than the hypeness of it.. A good line is worth more than all that "Throw your hood up" Bullshit

Anyways, speaking of Poetic songs... Im tellin you..

Fuck it, Im makin a thread for it.. Peep trhe next thread I make..
