ok, i got a password on my computer. so that basically only i can use it. my brother somehow got on, showed me how he got around my password and shit. He went into safe mode, by shutting down my cpu (it was on the away thing and he didnt have the password). so he then erased my password through safe mode. this is gay. my cpus slow as shit now, cuz he dl'ed kazaa and lots of other shit. someone tell me how to make it so the cpu cant be gotten onto without the damned password. i know some of yall know shit about cpus. :(

Erm, ..i know , i cant explain in enlish o.O Its not that hard tho..

Ambitious 02-10-04 02:47 PM

well....you can always go into a computers settings and get a round the password....(thru dos/safe mode or when its just starting up)
my advice to you is to just delete erything he downloaded :) tell him to put it on a cd......b/cuz you are deleting it....but its almost impossible to keep sum1 who knows what they are doing out of your pc......unless some1 else knows the deal...but i dont...
best i could do.

I know away that gets around it. However, I don't really feel like sharing that information with all of RB.

:)

(And if you know me, you know that I'm not the biggest 'computer nerd', however.. I do know alot of them, so.. w00t)

Which version of Windows are you using? Win2k? XP Pro? XP Home? If you never set a password for the Administrator account, that could be the reason why he was able to login through safe mode and delete your password for your other account. Boot into safe mode and set a password for that account.

Then reboot and in your computer bios, make a password be required to start up your computer... that way if he reboots, he would need the pass before anything even loads... quick and simple fix. Only way to bypass that is if he pops open the case and resets the cmos. Case locks? To be even more secure, use NTFS for your filesystem. If he gets pass your bios password and uses a regular dos/win98 boot disk that doesn't support NTFS, he won't be able to read any files. If you are even more paranoid, NTFS can also encrypt your files.

Feeble Minded 02-10-04 05:05 PM

i already knew what cpu meant. kalvin, i have windows XP ..
but, i DID have a password. not as you started up the computer, but i had it set so that you had to have a password to log onto windows XP . however, it seems your saying it is possible to make it so safe mode isnt accessable with no password ? please explain , id be grateful. :)

(aisle, i cant kick his ass, he has 60 pounds and 2 years on me)

also, what do you mean by computer bios ? i have gone into control panel, and gone to "user accounts". those all have passwords. but the user accounts are the only thing on my computer that have passwords. no password is currently needed to get into safe mode, and i dont know how to add one. do you know how to add a password for when the cpu is first started up ?

mc aines 02-10-04 05:09 PM
