Forgotten Whispers

The bitter touch of a new dawn smothers my first yawn. I prone in my cradle all alone,
The great unknown hero, the overtone to a zero, in atone only with my broken mirror. My sole companion, my voice
Surrender - my solo weapon of choice. So much noise around so much shit, I grow more tired the older I get
I've grown to become a warrior without creed, nuttin' more than a poet of the street. Look at me mama, is this what you dreamed for your kid?
I let out frustration, but still can't smile facing my reflection condemning my every action
Rememberin' questions I asked myself as I gaze at my early portrait up on the shelf
Am it's blamin' me for not stayin' true to ideals that I once knew, the years go by, ya boys remain so few
And even less ones that can really understand you. And I got a clue that if my picture could talk to me, surely it would only whisper accusingly: "See, you're not what I had wanted you to be!"
Insecurities got me to forsake my dreams, life's mistakes, now it seems are back with retribution.
A fusion of empathic contusion and vile, cuz nowadays only in my pics I can see me smile.
I remember when I was just a lad, predictin' only shit that's bad, my dad took me and shook me and taught me to do everything by the book
I gave him a spurning look, see? That's the same cold stare my kids gave me recently.
But today I'm half a man, ain't got a goal and no plan, I'm more shun than an afgan, dad, be proud, I followed in yo footsteps once again.
