okay i'm talkin with this kid in my house about hip hop as a style of music...

really as it's broken down you have hiphop as a culture...yea...but he's sayin that if you white you can't be part of that culture...and also that jarule is hiphop i would consider him rnb and a little generic rap based on what he raps about...guns and shit...eminem(at some points), talib kweli aesop rock common i would consider them hip hop based on the majority of their music and what the rap about...it's more political and real down to earth if you will...and he thinks that if you ain't from the hood you didn't grow up in the hiphop culture...keep in mind he is all up in ja rules ass somethin serious...

what are ya'll opinions on the definition of hiphop...

2. Hip hop isnt just about 'the hood' thats ignorant.. Rap is a style of music, people rap comming from many different backgrounds about tons of different subjects..

Hip hop is a culture, break dancing, graffiti, rapping.. You can be anyone and still take part or have a liking for these sorts of activities.. You dont have to 'grow up in tha hood and get shot' to be a rapper. For a lot of rappers thats just a gimmik to sell records..

Just display your message through words and be yourself, and youll find that rap can take you places..

For me, everyone can belong to the hip hop culture...and i'm not just saying this cause i'm white but i believe that everyone has the right to listen to the music he or she prefers and be part of that culture. I'm not gonna say whether or not Ja Rule is hip hop, don't label people or push them into lil boxes defining who they are...

Some say hip hop is a culture, some say hip hop is a movement, some say hip hop is garbage, hip hop is a state of mind to me. hip hop is expressing yourself without confining to the historical rule dat u have to sing to be a musician. hip hop is the most powerful music there is cuz its based on the power of the human voice amplified by a microphone....in the past a man an a mic talking has insited movements an roits....martin luther king stood on a mic an spoke about a dream....and it moved a whole crowd to walk for miles....an hip hop is the same thing except our dreams rhyme alot more.....hip hop is for any an everyone...granted it was started in the 1970's hoods of the south bronx but it was never made to be just for that hood, hip hop was made to spread across the world an it has...I mean there is monsterously famous rappers in china...rapping in chinese...rap belongs to the world now, when people say u can't rap cuz u ain't from the hood there just stupid...what they should say is you shouldn't act...spit what u know..I hate actors...kids dat fake being hood...but as long as u stay real wit ya lyrics an u skilled wit yours you got my respect.
