Trees swaying, I watch as the park is a host to children playing
Listening intently, in awe at every word my mother is saying
Praying that I’ll remember it later, but all I can hear is laughter
Hoping there’ll be a translation when she tells it to me after

She slips her hand inside mine, and I squeeze her hand tight
Igniting a bond between us something only we could alight
I turn for a second to glance at her face, its so full of glory
Words of wisdom, she utters…dear now , listen to my story

A mothers story

An area with inviting open spaces including a variety of races
A district so close that everyone memorised each others faces
Paces so fast, that children were having children, it was crazy
Youngsters, of just twelve smoking stuff to make them hazy

I got caught up in this world of lies and deceit, street crime
Miming lyrics to songs that had meaning, writing rhymes
My momma use to preach knowledge, that I used to shun
Telling me the same words Ima tell you, never do as I done

I look up from my baby carriage my eyes wide and so bright
Momma strokes my face gently, I open my mouth in delight
She tells me one day, I’ll fulfil all the dreams she’s planned
I smile gracefully, an effort to portray that I understand……….
