50 Cent Takes A Legal Loss
Rapper 50 Cent’s attempt to block the sale and distribution of a DVD about the “Original 50 Cent” has been thwarted by a Los Angeles federal judge who denied the platinum artist's request.
The lawsuit, filed by 50 Cent on May 3, alleged that three video production companies, including Czar Entertainment, used footage from a free interview he conducted without his proper authorization for their DVD, "The Infamous Times - Volume I: The Original 50 Cent." The new DVD chronicles the life of Kelvin “50 Cent” Martin, the Brooklyn criminal that the rapper adopted his name and persona from.
Jimmy “Henchmen” Rosemond, CEO of Czar Entertainment and manager of rapper The Game, expressed his pleasure at the judge's ruling.
“We are gratified that the court found that there was nothing improper in the DVD’s title or the way in which we are marketing it. We remain convinced that there is absolutely no merit to Curtis Jackson’s lawsuit and that it should never have been filed," Rosemond said in a press statement released on July 21. "We believe it was filed more as an attempt to further his childish campaign of jealousy against The Game and his management than to vindicate any legitimate legal rights.”
At press time, reps for 50 Cent didn’t respond to BET.com inquiries for comment.
