Turk Says He Never Fired Gun
 

The lawyer of former Cash Money Millionaire Tab "Turk" Virgil recently revealed that his client did not shoot a gun the evening a Shelby County sheriff deputy was shot in the face.

The shooting took place during a drug raid in Memphis, Tennessee back in January 2004. Initial reports stated that Turk shot two Shelby County deputies. On the other hand, U.S. Attorney Terry Harris contends that Turk hid in a bedroom closet of the raided apartment and shot Deputy Chris Harris with a 9-millimeter hand gun. Harris was hit in the jaw, thigh and calf.

During Turk's federal trial Wednesday, his lawyer, Jay Bailey, claims his client "never fired a weapon" during the raid. However, Bailey didn't explain where the bullets that hit the deputy came from.

The deputies, part of a 12-member SWAT and narcotics team, were serving a search warrant at an apartment complex in South Memphis to look for heroin. The 22 year-old rapper was one of three people inside the apartment when the officers approached the front door and announced their presence, Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell said. The officers immediately came under fire, Luttrell said. No heroin was found in the apartment though a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia was confiscated. Turk is presently still incarcerated pending new developments in the case.

Turk faces federal felony charges of possession of a fire arm, being a fugitive in possession of a fire arm and being a drug addict with a fire arm. He is also awaiting trial in state court on attempted second-degree murder charges in relation to the shooting. Turk was initially charged with first-degree murder, but caught a break when his charge was reduced in April of 2004.
