The 3000 Dropped
OutKast rapper Andre 3000 says that he’s dropping the numerical moniker and using his birth name again – Andre Benjamin. The rapper, who stars in the new film, “Four Brothers,” with singer-actor Tyrese and rapper-turned-actor Mark Wahlberg, told the BBC that he hopes the change will help him to be taken more seriously as an actor..
Actually, it wasn’t Benjamin’s mother who convinced him to make the change. He said an unnamed but established actor convinced him, during a stern conversation, to drop the “3000.”
"He said, 'Let me talk to Andre' and he got on the phone and said, 'I've had bad experiences with working with music stars on a film because they don't take it seriously and I just want to ask you where your head is,’” Benjamin told the BBC.
“Four Brothers,” the story of four adopted men who seek revenge for the murder of their mother, hits theaters on Aug. 12.
