Anyone Who Is makign moves IN there career

SOMEONE WHO KNOWS ABOUT MUSIC AND ALL THAT SHIT READ IT AND HELP A BROTHER OUT...

yo tell me if this sounds like a good idea?

aight im gonna make enough songs for an album and eventually make a Cd and get it professionally done and get it placed in some local stores and try to buy a spot in the towers records spot over here and pay to get bars then hopefully they can say it

once i send my music in to get mastered down(is that even worth it?) i am goign to release a quick cheaply made mixtape and pass it out for like $2 so i can just make my money back(the money i spent buying the Cds) and hopefullly the poeple who hear the mxtape will try and cop the Cd or someone will hit me up for a show and all that jazz,

i also am goign to put out 3 of my songs from my Cd(before i even put out my mixtape and cd) and put them on vyinl and put those in record stores and use those for promotion also

its gonna be exspensive but im only 17 with no bils and get payed farily good at my job

**i knhow a few local MCs that have done this but they just passed out there Cds for free and one guy put his Cd in a store but im not sure on his sales... i can also get radio play once i record a decent sounding track(once i get time)

but yo you think thats a good idea
*ive already done a lil show type thing in this lil store/club just freestyled and battled some wack asian guy..yea owned him..<<just something i wanted to brag about

- Spot in Tower = $$$$$$$$$$

once i send my music in to get mastered down(is that even worth it?) "Mixed Down" and "Masterd" are seperate and for what you're looking to accomplish, the latter it isn't worth it. i am goign to release a quick cheaply made mixtape and pass it out for like $2 so i can just make my money back(the money i spent buying the Cds) and hopefullly the poeple who hear the mxtape will try and cop the Cd or someone will hit me up for a show and all that jazz, well that'd be a Demo. A mixtape is a lot different form a Demo. If you tell mixtape heads that your Mixtape is only songs on your album, they're gonna say "is it a demo?" or "AHAHAHAH. Damn bitch, go lay a fuckin track or two! lol!!" because mixtapes by artists are essentially micro-albums of their own, with unique songs and everything. Long story, but to make it short, I wouldn't suggest calling it anything other than a Demo or a Sampler.

i also am goign to put out 3 of my songs from my Cd(before i even put out my mixtape and cd) and put them on vyinl and put those in record stores and use those for promotion also

- Sounds like huge bucks man. You know how much it costs to get work on wax?? How many units are you planning to get printed?

its gonna be exspensive but im only 17 with no bils and get payed farily good at my job

- So far you're lookign at at least $9000 between Tower and the records alone, with no CD's printed yet. Tower's gonna want at least 5k and I'd be shocked if that's all they wanted. Also, being a minor, legally, they're going to ask for a legal guardian to sign off on all your contracts - just a heads up. IF they offer one, and you still have a lot of legal stuff to take care of like copywriting the Music, clearing the samples (if any) and registering with Sond Scan who puts the barcode on your CD and tracks your units sold. Registering with sound scna is pretty cheap, but nothing else mentioned here so far is.

- It could work, but there's a ton of steps from one goal to another that are not factored in. The main one being $$. The second one after that is timing and the last is the legal stuff. By "timing" what I mean is "putting an album in a store without any heavy circulation of your music, no one knows the artist REALLY, etc has shown in the past to be a big financial loss. You have to promote your self HARD BEFORE the album comes out, and whne it does, you do little college gigs and things like that. "The Underground" is the college age guys/girls at its roots. IMO I feel you should spend more time generating a buzz and getting your own skills honed in so you can have a better album AND a more successful one when you decide to release it. The budget? hell, i dunno how much money you have acess to, but the plan on paper alone with all the hshit you'd have to get done on paper is at least gonna be 10k. And none of that guarantees that you'll sell a single unit. just something to consider. You can get comprable results (depending on what your ultimate goal is) for WAAAAYYYYY less $$

Best thing to do man, keep it simple, make a demo, press a few hundred copies which you need to hand out free, constantly promote the shit out of yourself and your music untill people start really noticing you.. Find some small time club gigs for experience and a bit of pocket money..

And work work work your fucking ass off to make sure people know your really going places and actually worth a damn in this industry. And while doing this, get yourself on a 1 or 2 album contract with a semi decent company provided you got the skill and just start working your way up from there.

But promo work IS the key.......Rapping is a 24/7 job man.. You cant slip or slow down if you want to get anywhere in this industry.

My advice to you is, dont spend mega bucks right now.. Save all the fancy shit untill your well known around your own town.. But NEVER get stuck in a small time mind frame.. Always make sure your advancing with every move.

And my other advice to you... Is work on your skills and rid yourself of that hick vocal style I've heard you use. Heh......

A mainstream artists "mixtape" (which isn't even a "tape" these days) is usually for "stret cred", like they'll make hard songs that the label wouldnt let em put on the album or assemble some tracks that werent good enough quality or there's another song like it on the album, or an original version of a track, etc. It's not for "junk music" from the artist. Some of the low qual shit ad that purity to it, so don't BS on it. There's cult followings for mixtapes as a whole chief, lol.

Oh, if you're using Dre's instrumentals and you put out an "Album" OOOORR "Mixtape" without paying him leasing rights for it you're going to get you and your parents sued into oblivion. You can't sell a CD or do a show for money if you're using a beat from a producer who's music you took without their legal consent. That 'legal consent' = "$$$" or them pretty much saying "you can use it". "Mixtapes" usually contain mainstream instrumentals with that artist spitting over em, but they don't pump em out in stores since they'll get sued. Legally, anything less than about 1000 copies is considered "reasonable": since you're nobody yet, but you may still end up getting sued if someone's pittbull enough to get their legal team to persue it. Keep that in mind.

As for the vynl, I'll let you and him decide the price, but it's far more $$ than I think you're thinking to get em done. The min order on records I could get was 300 and at a little over $5/ea and came in a little over $1600 bucks. For 300CD's I paid "a lot less" than that. WELL under $1000 for a "mixtape" which is great and my shit isn't homeless and raggedy looking. My album insert isn't printer paper, it's hard card stock like a flier and it's double sided (the track names/orders are on the inside), glossy, and my CD has print on it saying my name, the album's name, The Rush Ent and my contact info.

For an Album (which I would have had glasswork done and mastering) that same amount of CD's would have been about 3-4x what I paid to get the Mixtape done aqnd that's not including any legal shit. At this point in the game man, for what we're all trying to do (get a buzz going) it's jsut too expensive for what you get, since no one in the world is gonna care if you got your shit glassed or not whne they never heard of you.

I think what you should do is post up what you're trying to achieve and a REALISTIC max budget. It's way easier to do this that way than to re-structure existing points of your 'plan'.

it cost sooooo much to get your shit on vynil...dont even go down that road.
