You can actually get a MXL 990 and a pre-amp for just around the same price. But I may still look into this.

well...Ike was tellin me about the MXL...i plan to read reviews of both before I decide

well, I mean I know what it is, but don't think I know exactly what it does or why its necessary...

a pre amp does what it says, amps the mic's signal before it goes through ur comp...otherwise, the signal would be too weak
