Why is there no such thing as rap idol?

You know, like american idol, but instead of singing, its rapping.

It would be so popular, I dont understand why they havent made it.

K.ontroverz.Y 11-05-05 09:29 PM

because then after that they would have to make a rock idol, dance idol, country idol, raggae idol and so on. Everyone would be complaining and shit because they make a hiphop idol and not any other type of music.

i think im right but im blazed right now so

One of the dudes from the black eyed pea's is comming to australia to do a show mid-next year where he will take a bunch of rappers and lyricists that show promise and put them through a sort of boot camp with the end result being one of them gets signed...

Mad idea.... Hell, I'd go in it myself if I wasnt gonna be signed by then... It'd be hilarious being on a show like that when ya better than the cunt thats running it.....

Ysdat 11-05-05 09:31 PM

NOS...an Australian rapper would probably not get anywhere trying to sell records in the U.S...I can honestly say that's the accent I've had the most difficult time decyphering, besides Irish, when it comes to rap...these stupid kids here can't decypher people with U.K. accents and they represent the population of most rap listeners, they wouldn't be able to understand an Australian head...

and ya never know if you'll be signed by then or not...you should try out anyway...if you get signed then you get signed by then and you'll be doing ya thing, if not then you get to be on the show...either way, ya can't go wrong...
you should try out anyway...

but werd @ Kon...if they did "rap idol" they'd have to do every other idol...they already did a "dance" show that was supposed to be modeled after American Idol...hate to sound racist but honestly the people that voTe for A.I. are generally white people, that's why all the shitty people like that skinny white boi Anthony whatever were left on the show this past season and all the good people were off madd early, all the black girls and even Constantine, got voTed off before him...

white people wouldn't know who to voTe for on no shit like that...they'd botch it all up, it'd never work unless that shit was on BET and even then, you'd have a bunch of white kids from the suburbs that think they know anything about talent in rap vTing for the person talking about cars and ice the most, therefore botching it up...something like "Rap Idol" would never be successful and have any kind of legitimiZed credibility for a "true emcee"...

K.ontroverz.Y 11-05-05 09:42 PM

word. There is actually alot of hiphop competitions.

L. Veracity 11-05-05 09:46 PM

Making The Band 2 was hawt but then Choppa got big headed and so did the rest of 'em and they all got dropped fomr Bad Boy or ain't doin' shit even if they ARE still signed to Bad Boy lmao...

wasn't there a rap competition thing on MTV as well?...whatever happened to that guy?...wasn't he supposed to get signed and shit?..where'd HE go?...same lace every other winner from a rap competition goes...NOWHERE!!

All of what you said is already happening on a larger scale. Replace show with music industry and votes with record purchases.

But I was just wondering about why they didnt make one.. Its obvious the most mainstream-like cars/ice rapper will win, but thats what theyre looking for. For the amount of $$$ they would make, it seems like a pretty good show idea.

Paranoid 11-05-05 09:49 PM

if they had that I'd fuckin tryout fa sho.

then I could hear how much I suck hahaha

Ughhhhh... Look..
My immediate goal is to make it in australia... It really does shit the hell out of me when americans act as though everyone from other countrys only wants to make it in the states...

It's just such a fucking pathetically conceded and self centered way of thinking..

I know your gonna come back with some bullshit like "oh dont be so mean"... But being a rap artist from a different country, this is not the first time some ignorant **** has said that type of thing to me...

I dont ever live up to steriotypes either... So w/e you've heard from other australian rappers... Best believe I dont fit the mold...

And another thing.... You act like white people are so out of touch with style and shit like that......... Fuck sake, get out of your snobby ass mindframe for one second and realise that there are plenty of idiotic black people with absolutly no sense of style either...

Hell the amount of times I seen some moron on TV trying to act ghetto and 'hip' just cause of their skin color just gets fucking embarrasing...

Your ignorance gets really fucking annoying at times veracity. :banghead:

L. Veracity 11-05-05 09:54 PM

did I say an Australian won't make it?...if I did I didn't mean it "like that"

I meant it's unlikely that people will understand 'em and that'd be a reason they probably would not sell...I never said that has ANYTHING to do with their skill...I dont' know every Australian rapper...the one(s) I do know are lyrically sound, it's just really pretty difficult to understand and decypher their accents

and OneManBand, you think some FOX Executive is gonna do a "Rap Idol" on there?...how many regular ass TV shows do you see on FOX where even more than 2 main characters are black?...I watch FOX a lot and there's no shows I can think of besides "HOUSE" and this other one that comes on Friday nights that have any lead black actors...I don't honestly think they'd dedicate an entire season of a show to a genre most peg to be "black music"...unless they determine that people will watch it like craZy and they can damn near control every aspect of it so that the white suburban people aren't letting what their kids see on TV influence them to do bad things then I don't think they would...if rap in general was in a better place and off all that 50CENT "let's all be gangstas" shit then MAYBE they'd be willing to do it, but in my opinion of how I see television and percievetelevision eXecutives to be, I highly doubt it'd ever happen on a major non-cable network...

L. Veracity 11-05-05 09:58 PM

I'd never doubt that not every foreign rapper wants to make it in the U.S. but a lot do and I never said you wanted to make it here, but people know that the biggest industry for rap is in the U.S. and that's what they likely gravitate toward...it's fine and dandy by me, even GREAT you wanna make it in your home...

and I'm not being "snobby" cuz believe me, I knwo plenty more IGnorant black people that I know IGnorant white people, but I'm speaking as far as television...people try to censor albums and rock albums back in the day weren't predominantly the black people, it was white people...they're the ones that control TV channels and networks, so that's who I meant more specifically...

and F.Y.I. anyone trying profusely to be what they're not is quite annoying

Tha Q. 11-05-05 09:58 PM
