start using the colors of what you got to color the bg not an overlay. As for the first one I just think it needs more to it.

that joe budden one would be HOT if u used true to life colours n ditched the hue saturation.

but the barb wire and chains are crazy is you used them better

The first one has some potential. But there is too much empty space..

Second one is.. Well it's too cliche.. Rapper in an alley. and the color overlay is just newbish.

Work on it..
