Have you recorded to artists instrumentals?
Have you ever recorded to another artists beat, like maybe an Eminem beat, or 50 Cent beat? Or anything along those lines?
I want to, but isn't it illegal? I thought the copyright law was something like, you can use other artists beats, but you can't sell more than 1,000 copies of an track without permission to use the beat, because you can only use it promotional purposes basically. But I don't know. So have you used famous rappers beats to record before? |
You can record over them for non profit use, But you couldnt put them on say, an album, even mixtapes now can be considered, unless your givin them away.
But yeh, if your plannin to sell the track, or play it live, it probably isnt a good idea. |

I have but never would I use such wack productions beats. I've used a couple, not much but I'm using a Pharoahe Month Intrumental for my new track.

So it would be safe to use the beat to oh say "Like Toy Soldiers" by Eminem, or "Take Over" by Jay-Z?
I haven't started recording yet, but them beats by the average joe's out there are horrible to listen to, it makes my brain melt and leak out my ears for real. Also I remember hearing someone record to Young Buck beat "Let Me In" and he even left one or two of Young Buck's verse in there. |

I read that if you put a sticker saying "Promo Use Only" on the front of your CD, then they can't do shit even if you sell loads.

stopp being so worried about copyright laws...unless you're trying to protect YOUR shit from getting taken, don't even worry about any of that...artists know people are gonna use their instrumentals, even dipset uses other people's shit...i heard Dipset on "Pushin" before I even knew it was a Bun-B instrumental and I'm fairly sure they niether asked nor paisd him to get on that beat...and they sell millions of mixtapes and shit...don't fret about that shit just do ya thing man |

Yeah once I record a good amount of stuff and get the hang of it, I'll probably start using beats I make or my friends make.
