Technology and futuristic features in cars.

The new 2007 Mercedes S class will come with a feature called Distronic Plus. It's a feature that allows the car to basically drive itself. You set the controls to remain a certain distance from the car in front of you, and it'll maintain that while you don't have to use yout feet. This will even work in city stop-and-go traffic where you're constantly applying the break then gas pedal. Distronic will slow the car down and speed it back up automatically. It'll even bring the car to a complete stop if it has to.

I'm amazed by all these gidgets and gadgets. I think I would definitely try this out if I had the opportunity.

but lol...people who cant even drive could use this thing tho, thatd be the only downside to it...

that would take away the fun of driving...do you know if you can disable it to jus drive normally?

What if you set it and the car infront of you is like 10-15 yards in front and they got through a yellow light and it turns red as they are going through your car doesnt recognize the light and it keeps going and the other lights have now turned green and BOOM accident..

Reminds me a bit of I, Robot.....

you still have to pay attention...you cant be like jacking off and expecting the car to drive itself...you still have to steer and all that...its just like a better form of cruise control...keeps you from constantly having to press the brake then the gas then the brake then the gas...

if you saw a yellow light youd just press the brake and stop like a normal person...

all it is is glorified cruise control...and yes you can turn it off...it doesnt activate unless you specifically press the button to turn it on...

^^yea...But, business people could take their eyes off the road because the car wouldn't allow you to crash into anything in front of you.

This reminds me of Toyota's attempt to build an "uncrashable" car. Supposedly, the car could never crash. If someone tried to slam into the back of you, massive airbags would deploy and prevent them from damaging your car. If you purposely tried to run into something, the car's sensors would alert the internal computer and the car would prevent you from crashing.

That's garbage though.... it'll never work..
