...if i remember correctly,there was a scene at the end,where he had to walk with the scuba gear a certain amount of feet in front of a panel of judges to be granted a diver? i think he was injured in the movie or something n they were tryin to use that to disqualify him....something like that...that movie is old

1.) Robert Deniro: How's the water?

The quote above shows the casual usage of racial comments that weren't even given a second thought, but rather excepted without question for fear of persecution... Or even discharge from the navel academy.

2.) Cuba had been previously injured, when an anchor was accidentally release and it severed his leg. After extensive therapy and use of a protestic leg he learned to function just as well as any other man. To be excepted back into the naval program he had to put on all of the scuba gear, which had been atered since his injury and was heavier. In order for most to be excepted back they need 10 steps in the gear on dry land (I think 10), but the judge made him do 20 (again, not sure) in the court room. Which he still did.

This even representing the lack of racial equality, and the attitude towards accepting African American males into high ranked naval/political possitions.

one of my fav. movies ever....shit is inspirational as hell...id actually recommend goin and renting it....i watched it for like the 1000th time the other night
