Majors in high school
 

What do you all think about this? I read where in Florida there's a bill being passed around that would require high school students to declare a major like in college.





I think it's a good idea because you could tailor your education to what interests you most.

That's would have made me like goin to school.

kids are young in high skewl man.. they could think bout it in college.. that's wut its for.. if they do that in high skewl, it doesnt give kids a chance to exerience what they like if they are forced to choose right away.. lets say they choose medical field.. than later by senior year they wanna do something else like with computers n stuff.. its jst stupid to to majors in high skewl..

I already picked my major, sports medicine.

In college, you normally don't have to declare a major until your sophomore year. And, liberal arts colleges like the one I went to allow you to take a variety of classes before you even have to declare a major. So, I think this idea would work if they fashion it after liberal arts colleges--i.e., allow the students to experience a variety of courses. Also, I don't think age is an issue. People generally do what you give them the lee-way to do. So, if a student knows he'll be expected to declare a major, then, he'll enter highschool with that mindset.

OLD, ive had a major in high school since i was a freshman

New to me...I hadn't heard of it until this Florida issue. I guess Chicago isn't as important as Florida. :huh:

P.S. Do you go to a public school?

All this crappy job has showed me is how getting an education IS important, otherwise youll be breaking your back all your life and getting paid shit.

or you could look at it like.. while all your punkass friends are in school, you're getting money and shit. yeah, beat that
