Dave Courtney (Born February 17th 1959) is a former British gangster who has renounced crime and become both an author as well as a rather curious celebrity figure.

He was once referred to as the Yellow Pages of the Underworld due to his knowledge of the criminal underside of London and apparent 'association' with prominent gangsters such as the notorious twins Ronald and Reginald Kray - despite only being 9 when they were arrested. Courtney has a lengthy criminal record, and was once charged with murder but acquitted.

Apparently the picture is from a book written by Dave Courtney named The Firm

From this site -
Dave heard that Jay-Z was in the country, so, knowing that he was a big Dave Courtney fan, Dave gave him a ring. After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing he finally got through to an American minder who told him that Jay-Z didn't want to speak with him. Dave surmises that this is probably because of a legal problem over the original album cover to Jay-Z's CD "The Blueprint", which appeared to be a homage to a photo of Dave holding court at the Oxford students debating society by Jocelyn Bain Hogg that appeared in the book The Firm. Dave says that during the legal wrangles the album had to be taken off the shelves and that the matter was eventually settled out of court by Jay-Z.

My brother knows Dave personally him and his g/f have been to his place
and everything long story.

If Jays not a biter he's just un-original everything he writes seems to have
an influance for another writer or person,....

word but people who love jay won't see that...

but you do have to admit most things people write about do contain an element of influence...but jay does over do it a little

Critic 04-18-06 08:59 AM

I agree but he does do it far too often, he claims its quote's but why dosen't
every other rapper quote other rappers lyrics.

On rv you spit a bar of someone else's writing and your banned for ever
and everyone slags you off for being a cheat.

it's life...Jay-Z sells it brilliantly imo...i don't judge the mans skills..but he could deliver a lil more originality...

You can't be serious? You a jackass for the ignorant comment. You know how many rappers quote (bite) off other things. Every rapper is influenced about something, so they rap about what they see or what happens...and sometimes its a quote. If someone said something that stuck out to you, you would say it to...if it meant something. I have never heard a verse where Jay puts someone elses quotes in the middle of his verse. It's always at the beginning or end, or a hook, clearly quoting someone else. Like on the Jay-Z song, "Some People Hate"..at the beginning of the song, he's saying "This must be the way that nigga Pac felt when he made Me Against The World, All Eyez On Me..." Then he quoted him at the BEGINNING of his verse, "All rough and rugged, when adressing a mass public, my attitude is fuck it, cause mutha fuckas love it"

This is just an example, because the topic is Jay and some UK fucker...who cares!! He's just quoting something someone else happened to say...Obviously it's working because he dropped 1 album a summer and they all went beyond platinum, so he has to be doing something right...

BTW:Cam never went platinum, he can't talk. Even the streets ain't buying his shit.

didnt dave courtney get shitted on from everyone in the uk underworld for being a snitch.

oh yes...frankie fraser labeled dave courtney a grass....and as far as im concerned, apart from the krays, frankie is the top fucking dog...

TeamOne 04-20-06 01:33 PM

i think he gives props........ like this is an homage....... if u watch ANY movie there is some sort of a homage to another director or movie that came before them, there just not so easy to catch unless u watch alotta movies, especially really old movies......

i think once in a while jay-z does go alil overboard with it...... but for the most part hes givin props..... and anyways, my favorite song by Jay Z has no "bitten" lines in it at all......
