It's not really a downfall, more like a turn into a different direction. Some people will say that rap is better now then it ever has been, but then you will also have the people that say rap is at an all time low.

Now, a lot of people like the gangster stuff because it makes them feel like they made it through hard times and therefore they deserve respect, and if they don't get it they need to prove to people that they are 'hardcore', this causes the violence and the criminal acts from the teenagers. Some people listen because they actually did go through the same stuff the rappers preach and they can connect better, but most of those people listen to other 'gangster' rappers, not kats like 50 cent.

But then again, you've got 'rap purists' who will say that rap is mainly about lyrics and wordplay and the beat and hook are not that important. The problem is that often times they still rap about gangster stuff, or they rap about the government and in turn they became very unoriginal and not that interesting to listen to. Amazingly enough, these people usually will not admit they rap, or they listen to underground music to avoid being harassed and ish from the other side.

Both have good points, but rap is a combination of hooks, beats, lyrics, wordplay, and emotion. Rap in itself is nothing but a form of expression, and rap originated in the streets and therefore the gangster stuff is obviously gonna be the main thing of rap because that's where it originated, but too many people try to take advantage of that and rap about stuff they don't know about.

That's the 'downfall' of rap, people trying to just make money from it and raping it up the ass.

i see what you're saying, but what's ignorant is thinking that its wrong for any of these cats to sign major record deals, commercialize their shit, and make some money, especially with the situations that alot of rappers are comin out of ...

Ya, I've just never said my view, so I just figured I'd get it outta the way and say it now.

Indeph 05-19-06 09:25 AM

Ok listen. People need to shut the fuck up with this hip hop is dead bullshit. It's drilling in everyone's mind that it actually IS. Which is leading to people with some "good" music sayin' fuck it and quitting. It's THE PEOPLE WHO BUY it that shape the way it's going. If the people claiming its dead didnt care about money and fame than they wouldn't bitch. THey'd probably like it better if it was still just a local thing that no one knew about. Oh how much they love hip hop

Indeph 05-19-06 09:30 AM

Oh, and people have the right to rap about whatever they want. Maybe.. just maybe the reason why theres alot of ppl rapping about the same shit, is because theres alot of people going through the same shit. But yea, you want them to be "real", and yet you want them to pretend to be deeper than they really are. That makes plenty'a sense.

You're an idiot. This "Gangsta" era that according you we've just come across, was was initailly sparked hip-hop as we know it. Fads simply cycle back and forth and it's finally made it's way back... But that could never ruin hip-hop. Just because you only see surface/mainstream rap and don't like it doesn't mean the end of rap is near. The end of rap only exists in the mind of kids like you who close yourselfs off to hip-hop in its entirety. Hip-Hop is mainstream, underground, poetry, art, history... I suggest you venture off into some other forms of hip-hop before you completely discount it due to a lack of interest in a very minor part of a much larger whole.
