The Book of Proverbs in the bible is sooooo true and beneficial

Written by King Solomon...of Israel, the son of David...Legend has it he prayed to God and asked for Wisdom instead of riches. As a result, God not only made him the wisest man on earth, but also added immense riches to him.

Here are a sample of some of his wise sayings in the book of Proverbs. These are soooo true!

Proverbs 14:20
The poor are shunned even by their neighbors, but the rich have many friends.
Proverbs 14:19-21 (in Context) Proverbs 14 (Whole Chapter)
Proverbs 16:28
A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends.
Proverbs 16:27-29 (in Context) Proverbs 16 (Whole Chapter)
Proverbs 17:9
He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.
Proverbs 17:8-10 (in Context) Proverbs 17 (Whole Chapter)
Proverbs 17:17
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
Proverbs 17:16-18 (in Context) Proverbs 17 (Whole Chapter)
Proverbs 18:24
A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Proverbs 18:23-25 (in Context) Proverbs 18 (Whole Chapter)
Proverbs 19:4
Wealth brings many friends, but a poor man's friend deserts him.
Proverbs 19:3-5 (in Context) Proverbs 19 (Whole Chapter)

Meh, just a few philosophies. Not really anything too astonishing or thought provoking.

and yet, people continue to make the dumbest mistakes.

I'm not saying those particular proverbs are groundbreaking...Just amazingly true when you think about them.

Wisdom is the application of knowledge...and the book of proverbs is full of helpful advice on living life.

I think the life best lived is one of trial and error. Observing mistakes of others doesn't necissarily teach you the value of thier corrections. Books are a noble attempt at improving life in general by targetting individual success, but honestly, very few people take anything they learn to heart.

^^I think you're missing the boat bro. The observations Solomon makes in the book are what make him wise. His eyes are open.

Example: One proverb says, "don't rebuke a fool, because he'll despise you for it."

^^Obviously someone has a right to choose to follow this or not. But, I would take it to heart and consider it before doing what it says DON'T DO.

So, if I see someone who is reckless and doesn't care about their life, and I "rebuke them" by saying, "You're making a mistake..blah blah"...Solomon says that person will not only despise my words, but will turn on me.

Trial and error can be a good teacher. But, only a fool would travel down a road someone else has already traveled, WARNED THEM ABOUT, and then make the same mistake.

It makes sense to learn from the mistakes and wisdom of others. It's why parents teach children. It's why teachers teach students. No one knows everything they know from trial and error alone. Some people just don't believe shit stinks until it smacks em in the face.

There are certain mistakes people can avoid like stealing, murder, etc...

But there are little things (car accidents, losing money, etc...) that cannot be avoided. No matter how careful you are you will make those mistakes at least once in your life time.
