Your standpoint on thanks/gratitude
 

How do you feel about saying thank you, and being thanked?

I cop a lot of shit for apparently being thankless, meaning when somebody does something for me or gives me something, I come across as ungrateful. But when I give stuff away, I never even expect a thank you... Shit just seems meaningless to me. Its not that I dont feel grateful, I just think it isn't necessary. And thank you's often seem insincere anyway, so I feel like im demeaning their good deed by saying meaningless words, yet they expect it.

Part of what im saying is it pisses me off when people say thanks and don't mean it at all.

Prime example... I gave a dude some money to buy himself dinner on the way home from my place the other day. He was like "Thanks man, you're a legend man, really, thanks, ill pay you back on like friday or some shit, thanks man." I could tell he was bullshitting, because he's the kind of guy who will just act like nothing ever happened when you run into him, and not mention it unless you do, then make excuses till you forget.

I dont care that I gave him whatever, but why does he need to lie about it and make a big deal.

btw: This is meant to be on more of a deeper level than dudes saying "yeh i say thanks sometimes" or whatever.

if i gave you money to eat dinner, your thanks is the recipt.

it doesent bother me when people dont say thanks to me, but i always make it a goal to appreciate and show the appreciation i have for a good deed. ya dig ?

I don't really give people anything expecting gratitude. I usually just give it to them to help them out with their situation. Although when there comes a time where they backstab me or something after I helped them thats when it becomes a problem. Like if I save a man's life and he tries to kill me the day after. As for thank you? It'll be nice to hear, but isnt an obligation.

Yeah I know what you mean... It's not that I don't appreciate good deeds, its just that I think saying thank you isnt all its cracked up to be. If I borrow money from someone, i'll pay it back as the thanks, if someone does a good deed for me, ill do a good deed for them when the time comes. Often gratitude and appreciation are reduced to just a "thanks" which is hella lame. And besides, the giver should be thankful.

If people ain't thankful then they won't get shit from me. I value manners a hell of a lot, if you don't say please or thanks then I will tell you to say please or thanks.

It just annoys me when I do something for someone and they don't even care enough to say thankyou, and if after I tell them to say thankyou they actually dodge saying it, then they won't ever get anything from me.
