Affirmative Action

Thoughts? .

Logic The Goonie 09-06-06 05:34 PM

I hate the fact that it basically serves as a handicap but if we didn't have it a whole shitload of deserving people wouldn't get in due to racism/stereotyping/prejudice or whatever you want to call it.

exactly, are u on facebook?

I think it's a double edged sword. It exists because some people can't give up their racist ways by choice so they do it by force.

but the other side of that blade is....why is my race considered a handicap? i don't need your fuckin handouts b, I'll fight twice as hard for my shit and earn it. cuz I'm just that fuckin qualified. fuck lowering the bar, the most qualified person should get the position, race regardless.

This is exactly how I feel......word for word.

I know that there is still racism in the world and without programs in place such as affirmative action there would be little to no incentive for a racist person to hire outside his own race. It's for these reasons alone that I agree with affirmative action, but I also feel that it makes the minorities that are busting their ass to get to these top positions to feel like people are looking at them as a product of affirmative action.

So basically, I don't like the fact that we have to have it, but the fact of the matter still remains that we do have to have it

what all of yall who have posted in this thread dont understand is that affirmative action isnt in place because anybody thinks theres a current problem with boss's being racist as far as who they hire in the business world... its in place because the "even playing field" was thrown off from the time that blacks were first brought into this country all the way up until the Civil Rights Movement... and thats the obvious reason for the racially divided financial distribution we have in this country, so affirmative action is designed to be part of a plan to attempt to even that playing field back out.

PS - this should be moved to Intellectual Discussion

If you honestly don't think there would be a huge deficit in the hiring of minorities if affirmative action was removed, then you are very misinformed. Most white people are politically correct because they have to be and they don't want to start any confrontations, but take away the consequences and there is no reason for them to hire a minority over another white guy or gal.
