isnt this being stereotypical??

ok i been across LOTS of racial sensitive people in my lifes
im talkin bout the guys that say "African american"
cuz they afraid ta call somebody "black" like its a bad thing.
but hearing this from people got me thinkin

if somebody says african american
cuz "thats what they wanna be called"
isnt that stereotyping a race????

whoever said ALL black people wanna be called that?
indians or should i say "native americans" are diffrent
cuz they aint really indians....they aint from india
it was from christoper colombus thinkin he was in india
so ta say they're indians would be incorrect

but isnt anything else like that bout a race being stereotypical??

Lol i think youre reading too much into it... Anyone thats afraid to call a black person black is just that, afraid of black people. Which is stereotypical in itself so word.

La Cosa Nostra 10-08-06 01:55 AM

Theres nothing racist about calling someone black......

Dufflebag Boy 10-08-06 02:00 AM

^^exactly my point...but some people like to believe it is
mainly cuz of what anxiety said..they afraid

African American is more racist than black... Black = describing somebody's appearance.

African American =

- May not have ever been to Africa, despite their origins.
- May not be an american citizen, could be from Africa.
- Why can't they just be called "Americans"? What if their family has been in America for more than a few generations... They are just as American as anyone else.
- Why aren't Hawaiians called Hawaiian Americans?
- Why aren't americans called English Americans?

Its the most illogical term ever..

Logic The Goonie 10-09-06 12:25 AM

well i dont think its racist, but its not describing our color as all black people are a shade of brown none are black they are just very dark brown

J Bee 10-15-06 07:01 PM

i get very specific when describing spooks. if they are a lighter brown i will call them "a darkish, carmely color" if they have very dark skin i will call thme "dark summer mapel bark with a hint of mahogany"

Dufflebag Boy 10-15-06 07:04 PM
