i've heard that theory the confusion of tongues and whatnot

Go to google, search the early forms of hominid. The first one with a large enough brain to support complex oral communication was the origin of language. Done.

You could consider any form of communication as language..

Certain types of animals probably dating back before anything human like existed would have communicated with eachother for their own purpose reguardless of how complex or primative their methods may have been.

More or less every species has some sort of way of communicating.

Since thats blatantly obvious, I figured he was talking about the origin of dialectic language.

I guess it would have happened sometime after the great flood....
