How many of you guys are desensitized?

I just realized I'm desensitized as fuck. The other day, on the cover of the paper, there were pictures of firemen who died in a fire around here and everyone got all emotional and a few people started crying about how young they were, the youngest being 23 I think, while I found myself saying, "So what?" in my head.

Now, I don't neccessarily like the fact that I don't give a fuck anymore, but I don't understand how people can cry about a few fireman who KNOW the type of danger that they will get themselves into die, but casually pass a story about a 19 year old (sometimes even younger) that lands on page 7 of the local section. Maybe it's just the fact that people are such hypocrites, I don't know.

I was kind of the same way about 9/11. I mean, yeah what happened was horrible, but don't terrorist attacks happen all the fucking time? So why should I throw a flag on my fucking car just cuz it happened to us this time? Why do I have to act patriotic for a few months because we ONLY give a fuck about ourselves? I didn't cry on 9/11, as a matter of fact, I came home from school after hearing about it all day and got mad because MTV wasn't playing any videos.

Now call me a piece of shit, but I know a few people here know what the fuck I'm talking about. =/

I agree with the 9/11 shit. If you hate 'terror' so much go to Palestine and rally or something. No one cares about the Middle East except when they got an asshole gas attendent.

Dufflebag Boy 10-30-06 10:28 PM

yea i felt the same way bout 9/11 mostly cuz i was ignorant, young, and dumb
now that i realize how important just one life is i feel sorry for all those people
and yes its hard ta give a fuck when it happens ALL the time everywhere
but ask urself does it really make it ok if everybody else is doing it??
easy answer: NO it never will people always doing the wrong thing all the time
we shouldnt get comfortable with how the world is and what people do
obviously im not gon take it personally if i hear some random dude died
but i do try my best ta care and take time ta realize someones life REALLY was tooken

I do cry sometimes, but it takes a lot for that to happen to me.

In my opinion, if I were to dwell on 9/11, I need to dwell on EVERYTHING else, because that's just being a fair and balanced person. However, I can't dwell on shit because I'd never move forward and just spend all my time dwelling. People get fake as fuck whenever tragedy strikes, be real with yourself. If somebody close dies you'll find an atheist in church for a few weeks.

I can't be lead to believe that it's fair for us to stop the world when 9/11 happens, but as it goes on in the rest of the world it's just another fucking day for people over here while hundreds of other people die all the time.

Depends entirly on how much I care about the the subject or experience.

Young Kidd (LM) 10-31-06 12:44 AM

Yea. I feel bad alot about myself. Because I know exactly what you mean.

I mean I cry, yea, but usually the only thing that can make me really cry is My Family. Because they are the only ones who can push my buttons to the point where I can't take it.

But 9/11 Didn't really touch me. Which made me feel bad for myself. Because I didn't understand how i could watch people Jump from Burning Buildings, and not give a fuck.

Now that I'm older I realize that people have their own way with dealing things. Like my closest uncle died a year or 2 ago. And I didn't Cry. I beat myself up for it.
But as you get older you realize how you handle things. Your never really Desensitized, It's just how you handle it. Thinking that you don't care isn't really a form of that. It's just another way to handle Death and how you look at it.

BOOM!

I have to agree with Logic/Socrates.. with all the violence, gore, and sex in movies and on the internet it's getting tough being seriously sad or grossed out with stuff I see in the media. I remember a few years back, someone on another forum posted pics of a dock worker that got his head crushed by a trailer and after the shock wore off in a few minutes, I actually found myself taking a closer look at the mess. I rather not see the stuff, but if I do, it's like it's no big deal. I have no clue how I would react if I came across something like that in real life though.
