use a dope programme, im using cubase at the moment..most of the best programmes are designed for use on macs, but steinberg, the guys who made cubase, have release an edition called cubasis, which is for PC use...when u make a track, give yourself some direction, as to what u want it to sound like, before u even start! u gotta know what u want out of it, otherwise ya just get a mess...invest in a midi keyboard if ya got the spare cash, it cuts making the foundations of a tune from a few hours to about an hour...be prepared for long hours too man...also, not being funny, but ya beats will sound shit...mine did when i first started..practice..if u can afford it, get to a music production course...i did a part time course every saturday at the ACM, which is the best music academy in europe...hearing and learning from an actual producer is the best way forward..its was pretty cool when i was there..we had jazzy jeff as a guest teacher one day! anwyays...thats my ramble
