I need some help

So I tried recording the other day on my laptop in Cool Edit. Shit was all kinds of fucked up. It sounded all distorted and the timing was WAAAAAAAAY off. I tried reinstalling everything and I know it's not my mic cause I can record with it on my other computer. Basically, I'm thinking its a computer setting on my laptop that might have gotten fucked with. Any help would be really appreciated

Sound card. *walks away*

Yeah, but what about it? Its never given me problems before and it plays out sounds perfectly. Am I gonna need to buy a new one or can I just uninstall/reinstall this one?

You can't just uninstall/resintall a soundcard, it's not a program, you can take it out of your card slot and put it back in if you'd like, but there are multiple reasons the computer sound system functions. Now, you're telling me you've RECORDED on this soundcard before and it's worked fine?

If there's any sudden changes, that means either
A. Your soundcard is dying down
B. You did edit your audio settings

Now if you wanna tell if there is actually a difference without recording, my suggestion is play an already recorded song on both computers at the same time and compare. If there is a difference in quality, you need to fix either A. or B. of above.

And is there a reason you're recording on your lap top now? Is it more convenient?

If that's the case you might wanna try taking the soundcard outta your main comp and switching it with the laptop's, that will be an easy way to find out if it's the SOUNDCARDS that are fucked up.

Oh and, another thing, Sometimes programs like cool edit and Adobe Audition fuck up after a while of using them, this happened to me once when I got a new soundcard and my audio settings were perfect, almost every song came out shitty quality WHEN SAVED AND PLAYED IN REAL PLAYER...

but when I opened them in Adobe it sounded great, just outside of it (soundclick included) it was shitty. Try restarting your computer and following the other steps I've provided.

Give me all the info you think I need and I'll help you as best as I can, I'm pretty good with computers.

could be your laptop is getting full and is not sufficient enough to run that program....

Enygma 07-07-07 04:36 PM

Ohh yeah.....forgot to reply...lol

Basically, I'm pretty sure it's my sound card. I don't think I can just switch them out cause one has three plugs (mic, speaker and line in) while the laptop only has two (mic and speaker). I'm pretty sure that the bigger one wouldn't fit in my laptop correctly. Anywho.....I figured a way to still record in my make shift booth with my desktop.

I appreciate all the help though man

And to Tony.....I tried erasing all kinds of shit off my laptop and its still doing the same shit :(
