Blacks and HIV
 

I'd heard about this before. But, reading this shocking statistic again today was another wake up call.


#1...Black people make up about 13% of the US population. However, blacks make up 50% of ALL HIV/AIDS cases in the US.

50%!!!!!!


AIDS is the leading cause of death among black women aged 25-34.

Please, someone explain to me why there's such a disparity in HIV cases between whites and blacks in this country. Those statistics suggest that black people:

A.) Engage in riskier behaviors than whites
B.) Endanger themselves more often than whites
C.) Are more susceptible to HIV than whites...

Which is it? Are we to believe than blacks are simply more reckless than whites? I have a difficult time accepting that notion. But, the numbers are evident. One out of every two HIV cases is a black person.

I'm from D.C. The numbers here are even more telling where nearly a quarter of the black men are HIV positive, and almost 10% of the entire population is HIV positive.


HIV is no longer a "gay" disease. However, gay men are especially at risk because of the incidences of unprotected sex. There's a psychology to it.

Think about it. Being gay is still not accepted for the most part. And, black men are especially prone to hide their sexuality to fit society's image of the strong, hyper-masculine male. Therefore, instead of being careful and taking precautions, these gay/bisexual black men have unprotected sex because it prevents them from having to admit they're actually having sex with another man!! On top of that, these men often have girlfriends and wives they regularly sleep with. STDs are transmitted from partner to partner because of their inability and/or refusal to acknowledge what they're doing and who/what they are.

It's funny though. HIV is no longer the death sentence is used to be in the 80s and early 90s. HIV can be treated like any other chronic illness. And, the person who has HIV will live as long as the average person without HIV, barring other illnesses, chronic diseases, or sudden death.

I wish people could get real and stop denying what we ALL KNOW is going on. PEOPLE are having sex. PEOPLE will ALWAYS have sex. And, PEOPLE are not protecting themselves.


Abstinence doesn't save lives.

Safe sex does.

this seems stupid. couldnt gay men keep condoms for use with another male just as straight men keep condoms for use with women. if it is true that gay men have more unprotected sex than straight men, then i would think the reason is that they feel there are less risks...

a man having sex with another man runs the risk of catching STIs/STDs, whereas a man having sex with a woman runs the risk of both catching a disease or infection, as well as impregnating the woman

Government is dumb. Vote Mr. Lavish for President! I could do it and I'd hook it up with easier citizenship programs and stop deporting people. Black people are more prone to drugs and unsafe drug practices. Sharing needles having sex for drugs, and prostitution. I beleive blacks have the higher ratio for that. Also don't more black people get tested for HIV and aids than white people. I see and hear about whites having way more unprotected sex than some of my black peers. But w/e im cool

I don't believe that the government created AIDS to infect blacks. That would be just stupid because the disease also infects people of other races too. If it was intended to infect black people, the logical thing to do would be to genetically engineer it target that particular race. Not possible? They can already figure out the race of someone using DNA samples now.

Ask yourself this. If you are having sex, are you wrapping it up? If you aren't, why not? Unless both you and your partner were tested, you'll never know for sure if neither one of you have any STDs. I'm willing to bet that guys don't want to use one because it feels better going in raw.

Being on the down low and not using condoms because of that is just plain stupid. It doesn't matter if a dude's cheating on his gf or wife and doesn't want her to find the condoms... Use one and toss the box. Condoms are cheap.. but you only got one life. Heck, a true player would just use the entire box that day. AIDS isn't a gay disease, but anal sex does have higher risk of transmission because vaginal walls are thicker and have less chances of bleeding.
