alright...

so I got forced into comming into the cop shop today to give a statement on a compleatly unrelated case about a meth lab that im trying to establish my non-involvement with...

the female cop noticed paint on my hands... she started questioning me about it and yada yada, to make a long story short... i gave her the most massive agressive lecture on graffiti shes probably ever heard in her life... i totally burnt her...

about how graff is a modern community based form of expressive artwork that the government should do more to recognise as a definitive urban youthful culture rather than a derrogatory form of vandelism, i was telling her about my distaste towards artists putting up artworks on government and corperation owned walls and having them being flat color painted over by fucking assholes that are directly supressing a modern culture that should be given a chance to be more regulated and accepted in society because ultimatly it IS our country and it IS our taxes paying for these buildings...

and would you believe it... she was actually agreeing with me and saying shell dig around and see what she can do to advocate the construction of more legal walls and more forums for the community to talk on graffiti and societies related views... but i realise i have a habbit of talking my ass off.. and as I was walking out i thought to myself........shit......ive just advocated legalisation of graffiti... am i wrong or what? i walked down the street, looked at all the illegal graff (some of it mine) and thought, damn man... part of the culture is about the thrill of doing illegal graffiti.. part of why kids get into it is for a rush and instating their presense in an outlaw culture of people with no rules or regulations..

so unfortunatly.....im quite dissapointed with my form, even though I admit I was high on xanax at the time in the cop shop and probably wasnt thinking all that straight...

I'm sure a lot of you come from places where graffiti is far more accepted than where I'm at... but I think I made a poo argument that I shouldnt have in that cop shop..

or did i?

what are your views?

I've got a few tags of my own in my hood. but I'm not to great at it.

Ysdat 11-03-08 08:28 PM

Half way through reading what you said I started to think ' Fuck that, let them hate the art, cause part of the a culture is the fact its illegal, the hate and misunderstanding is what makes it what we love.

Then you went and stated that yourself.

We have a lot of hate and anger for tagging over here bro, so much that a kid was killed by some old white guy for tagging on his fence, and they guy that murdered the 15 year old kid, didnt get one charge. They basically said 'he deserved to die'. I mean, a 60 year old man, stabbed and killed a kid for spraying paint on a fence, and he walked away with no conviction.

Tagging will never be understood by those who arent a part of it, but thats what its all about, its about them 3am roof tops, its about them mid day train track missions, its about fucking society off so much they spend millions of dollers tryna clean up what they can never stop.

To me taggings a reflection of society, they wanna clean up an Avenue and get rid of all the tagging, so there community 'looks clean' but on that same road 'hidden' away in houses are wifes being beaten, kids going hungry, meth labs, crack heads, rapes, murders, suicides, prostitution. But as long as the road looks good with no tagging, they dont have to face the reality and clean up the true problems.

Damn, Where I'm From it's not that big it's more like a past time and not to many people do it.

man some asshole started throwing rocks at me the other night because i was spraying paint...

which is why i pushed to regulate the community..

but i think keeping it illegal is the way to go... i jus get the shits recently cause some of my oldschool peices thatve been running foreveer and a day just recently got flat painted over..

that shit is fucked.... they were some good artoworks....

i was quite pissed off...

Ysdat 11-03-08 09:24 PM

yeh but thats to be expected and part of it. End a the day its all about finding that spot that doesnt get buffed for fucking ages, and when it does, being the first to get back in there and hit it again before someone else.

Oh man, I stopped tagging and doing peices, but this conversations got me smelling paint fumes.

La Cosa Nostra 11-03-08 09:26 PM

nah, im gonna be hitting up some of my old school walls to use them as legals...

Ysdat 11-03-08 09:29 PM

Over here its all about sides of shops for legals. Ill get some pics of some. Its just a quick conversations about how a 'proffesional peice of art' will deture street taggers away from hitting there shop. We allways do an arrangement and say we will put the name of there shop somewere in the peice, like tiny in the bottom corner.lol

La Cosa Nostra 11-04-08 12:05 AM

yeah thats what we do..

I need to think of a good legal name though cause my shit is red hot.....
