Police Apologize For Saying Suspect Looked Like Ice Cube
 

The Chicago Police Department formally apologized to Ice Cube Tuesday (July 22) after issuing an alert that described a man suspected in a series of sexual assaults in the Wicker Park area as looking like the rapper, who is in Chicago filming "Barbershop 2."

Over the weekend, the police described the suspect as a black male in his mid-20s, who "resembles the popular rap artist Ice Cube." When the local television station WBBM-TV, which is owned and operated by CBS, aired the statement on Monday, they accompanied the alert with footage from one of Ice Cube's videos.

A spokeswoman for the televison station admitted that the station used the video, but said that the inclusion of Ice Cube's name came directly from the police-issued community alert. But a spokesman for the Chicago Police said, "We acknowledged the information should not have been on the alert. We took immediate corrective action. We apologize to Ice Cube for what was an honest mistake and came with no ill intent."

The alert was later re-issued with no further reference to the rapper.
