My New Leaf
 

Last night I wished upon a fleeting moon
No stars to descend into my mindless sleep
My heart made way for disappearing defenses
And I made a promise to myself I know I’ll keep
I refreshed my soul with new hope and dreams
Cleansed myself of a lifetime of pain and tears
Watched as the stars emerged brighter than before
And I feel contentment I haven’t felt in years
I held a petal to the wind and then released my grip
Watched it fly without limits to a place unknown
Closed my eyes and let my heart begin it’s journey
I’m no longer scared to take that initial step alone
I’m running away from the little girl to scared to cry
I’m leaving all my inner insecurities behind
I’m letting go of all that I have believed in
No longer do I fear my past and present will combine
I once gave my strings to love and let them lead the way
Like a puppet I was controlled by a lust out of reach
Now I throw it away – all that has held me down
It still calls me, but I don’t listen to what it has to preach
I know now that I have found my way and the path is clear
I laugh with innocence as I watch life with a new sight
I let my body fall back to the bed that waits behind me…
And to the world outside my existence I bid goodnight

another excellent piece from one of the more talened among us.......i like that theme of moving on because it could mean so many things whether in a relationship or just life in general.........i think you were talking about a parental figure though only because of these lines.........
