The Last Mile by TR

My first influence was well used to this, I watch him from afar
His smooth finesse with words is like quick fingers on a guitar
Never understood how two words could be rhymed as such
I tried my luck, purchased a mic, prewritten was my crutch
I new it was time for my to start jumping my lyrical hurdle
Stepped up to a cypher, I was flowed around like a circle
They told me I had potential, and to calm down when I spit
They all had rap credentials, now my flow had changed a bit
I was so caught up I didn’t ever leave the studio in my home
I spit at all hours of the night, used my cell as a micro phone
In my hunger I even bit off net raps, still hate all my verses
My battles were like set traps, always came out word less
Friday night I went to battle, my mind was ready to manhandle
My enemy was basic, crowds eyes made me start to strangle
Try my hardest and all I do is look like a heavy breather
Why’d this happen to me, why’d I catch this 8 Mile fever

The Extra Mile

Athletes in marathons don't run an extra mile...
There's a finish line for them so it isn't worthwhile.
If only I knew where my ribbon was stretched...
I'd know how far I'm goin in life and wouldn't be so perplexed.
Elevating means going uphill, that's a harder road ta take...
The downward spiral's easier but at the end there's no brakes.
So my direction's upwards, wearin holes in the soles of my shoes...
Watchin the lucky drive by cuz for some it's easier ta do.
I've seen betta rhymes, but more importantly betta ways of life...
So I'm lookin for that extra mile to provide for baby and wife.
I'm too old ta think I'll 'make it' with these verses I spit...
So I'm stuck workin 8 ta 5, though I know it's not my niche.
Every day I feel some pain cuz I know I was meant for better...
I'm an artist inside, a writer, born to lay down letters.
But stupidity mis-directed me, traded college for semesters in jail...
I started my race at a snail's pace when I coulda enrolled in Yale.
But years have passed and the past is that, reflections with a smile...
But the grin that's within is melancholy cuz now I can't find my extra mile.

Good Verses From Both..

Breakdown....
Realist:

This was an overall good verse. Your story line was okay...Your Flow was really difficult in a couple places but everyone has troubles with that...It wasn't too bad of a read but I was a little dissapointed. Vocab was okay, but nothing special.
6/10.

BTK:

For your first SS verse this was solid. You encorporated some multi's and took on a solid life story that not so many people can relate too. The struggles were something I could personalize too and see. The Flow was good and didn't have any big noticeable flaws. Vocab needs to come up but that comes with experience in topicals. Good Job. 7.5/10

not much caught my eye...i just know you could do better...
i don't think you tried much...cuz this piece wasn't all too great...
but it was decent....the idea just wasn't hittin me...

BTK...well...i hafta say this 1 was more "eye catchin"...
there was some nice flow...meta's...good vocab n shit...
the story was better ths TR's...it was good...pretty good...
I just think you hit the topic better....
