Studio Equiptment Help

aight...I just need some help. I have no idea what means what when it comes to buying mics, preamps, audio cards. I dont even know how to really use preamps lmao, I'd like to know what everything does and helps make better. I'd like to know shit like what I should look for when I'm buying these things. Right now I've been checking out Zzounds.com but I didnt have a clue what anything meant when I looked at details. I'm not planning on buying anything that costs over 200$-300$ I'll worry about really expensive shit when I know everything I need to know about studio equiptment and I have a steady income.

Please help!

Pre amps basically give you phantom power, good for condensor mics. Adds qualitys.

What i would do i run a condensor mic through a preamp them compressor then to your mixer. then to the computer.

no..pre-amps dont simply give you "phantom power"

they boost your mic input level to a suitable level for an amplifyer to then amplify to the speakers....

Please don't tell me you don't think pre-amps don't give you phantom power to handle a condenser mic.

actually some dont. and that is not their main purpose. so no youre wrong.

That may be true, I've only been into this for about a year and a half, but all the new ones I have seen do give you phantom power. And i suggest, if you get one, get one that does have that.

I know its not their main purpose, I was just stating that most give you phantom power.

I didn't think there was a need to state the main purpose, afterall, its kind of self explanitory by the name "Pre-amp"

yes u have to make sure it has a phantom powered input. depending on your setup u might not want that but most people do. better preamps have both inputs or switchable phantom power
