What makes a good track???
What's the main ingrediants to make a good song...
I heard tunes I like wit kinda lame beats, and (alot more common) good beat with (eeeehhh!!!!) Raps... for example G-Dep's Let's get it... what a beat dat is but check the lyrics... sum 'Fish an spegetti' bullshit... wha you think??? |
Beats and lyrics both have to be be up to par to make a great track but think of 'In Da Club', simple but effective beats make it a good track...the lyrics are'nt the best. But think of 'The message' by Nas. Simple beat but lyrics are amazin which makes it an amazin track...it all comes down to the balance between lyrics and beats

Yeah, but Rappers with not very impressive lyrics 'DMX' (although he has his moments), Nelly, Puff Daddy (also had his moments on 'No Way Out'), Even a dude like 'Twista' his flow is tight as hell (due to tounge reflex) but if yo look up at his lyrics dey ain't too impressive... Everyone looks for different elements in music an I was jus wondering what it is that you RB users require listening wise!!! coz I know you 'pop' cats be too shallow to dig music to this extent.

You need an equal balance between the two? Not in my opinion, ive actually got more into poetry stuff now and even spoken word, i wrote a piece on it called `Music Is Dying` i dont think i posted that here, but its basically that nothing compares to someone revealing their true opinions and emotions on certain subjects they put their heart into.
Fucka beat. Commercial Ass Kids. . |
It depends, some people like shit you can dance to and others like a more emotional track that actually might have a moral purpose < which is what i prefer

There has to be some kind of link to the rapping and the beats, there has to be a merge, a connection. Otherwise you dont get no chemistry.
Also, I think samples and other little tiny sound effects can add and give a track more depth But the main thing, the lyrics have to be dope, and a beat you can feel. But everyones differant, so its hard to make a tune which everyone will luv. |
Beats
Lyrics... |
Alrite, this is gonna be hard to explain, but what I notice in mainly American Rap music is you always get the singing, catchy parts... or a part where the tune cuts out an comes back in, or where the voices are doubled etc ... get where I'm commin' from???
Do you find this effective??? or do you think dem cats are tryin' 2 hard??? What Ayura said boutthe chemistry beteen Rappers an producers in my expirience is true coz I'v done bout 5 tracks in a studio in 3 years an I never come out satisfied coz I always end up doin' what the producer wants on his beat that I don't feel suit me in the first place, I mean, I can Rap but never seem to pull it off when it comes to makin' a track... advice??? |
^^ doubling over is onoe of the most affective forms of emphasis
for instance...if you were battling, and there was a very good punchline, you would double overto draw attention to it for isntance 'My skills are highly flammable...You cant match up to this' it simply draws attention can can help flow immensely |

puff daddy never has moments...and he uses ghostwriters also ure gay and dont ever degrade DMX or i will kill you and then tell chrit to kill you, all his lyrics are ill ure just too stupid to understand anything |
^your going a bit far. although he is nice.
but flow is important. if your delivery is wack.. song is wack. lyrics. they can be ok and still have a hot track. beat is very important. no matter how good your lyrics are a wack beat will make the song wack. song is 80% delivery and beat 20%lyrics. thats real. |
OK, I used to have DMX up in dere wit my fav Rappers untill his album 'Grand champ' dropped, don't get me wrong... all in all 'Grand Champ' was nice an I was bustin' nuff tunes from dat on my mini-disc (god bless it) but the amount of times I heard "suck my dick" screamed into my ear was kinda off... but he does have lyrics in his pad, jus needs to mature a bit in some aspects.
ANYWAY... you people only mentioned doubling the voice... what about all dem effects an shit you hear in tha back round at times... is it possable to go over the top with it, or do you prefer it... everyone does it these days... therefore how much longer will people be gettin' away wit it??? |
A dope beat, a fire hook, and equal flow, wid some good wordplay and punchlines wid a few meta's and there ya go. If you can get feeling into your words while spitting it thats a big one, if you can do all that, you can be mainstream :)

But it's not only you're talent you gotta find...
(unless you can Rap an make beats) |

^^True. I think you gotta get lucky in findin the right producer who understands your feelins and how you wanna sound on the track. Dont let the producer create the song. He/she doesnt feel what you feel. Oh and coz I mentioned 'In Da Club' doesnt mean I'm a pop cat. I said it wasnt the best of songs but I've heard worse. *cough,Nelly, cough,Ja,cough* Nasty cough I've got there^^ |
