Question for DJ's and Producers

when i am doing my echo's on the background of my first set of vocals... what should i be aiming for?

should i harmonize? yell? talk? whisper?

you feel the question? what should i do? some people tell me my echo's are off and shit... help!

it all depends on the mood of the track. If you're makin a soft track whisperin in the background could make it good, but if ur spittin on a hard track, you'll sound like and idiot whisperin lol.

yeah....they are called "dubs"

90% of the time this formula works

lay down first set of vocals....then just spit the bars u want emphasized as your "dubs"....these tend to be about 5db or more lower than the main set of vocals...

then you can do "adlibs" which is the puff daddy shit "uh huh...yeah...woooooo"....or when u spit a bar that goes "and i need you in my life!" after that you say "cant live without" or something that goes with the bar....

the adlibs are usuallly for those upbeat commercial tracks...but on the slow tracks...whispering usuallyworks for adlibs...but my dubs tend to be the same on most tracks...
